Director – Tara Wray

Tara’s first film, an autobiographical documentary titled "Manhattan, Kansas", premiered at the 2006 SXSW Film Festival. It went on to screen at New York’s Lincoln Center, and at film festivals worldwide. "Manhattan, Kansas" received funding from the Jerome Foundation, the New York State Council on the Arts and the Anthony Radziwill Documentary Fund and is a sponsored project of the New York Foundation for the Arts. It is available on DVD through Documentary Educational Resources.

The idea to make CARTOON COLLEGE was born from Tara’s love of comics and her interest in the survival and sustainability of rural America.

Producer – Alan Oxman

Alan's editing credits include “Welcome to the Dollhouse,” “Happiness,” “Storytelling” and “The Pleasure of Your Company.” He was supervising editor and co-producer of “Control Room,” and the co-editor of “Unzipped,” which won the A.C.E. Award for Best Documentary Editing. Other co-producing credits include “Assisted Living,” winner at the 2002 Slamdance Film Festival, and “Children Underground,” which won the Special Jury Prize at Sundance in 2001, and Best Documentary at the IFP Gotham Awards that same year. Most recently he produced “An American Soldier,” an official selection of the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.

Producer – Arne Johnson

Arne is currently doing the festival circuit with his feature documentary "Girl's Rock!", which will be theatrically distributed in 2008 by Shadow Distribution. He’s also worked as an editor on the feature documentary “Out of the Poison Tree,” and writes a column about self-distribution for Release Print magazine.

Producer – Josh Melrod

Josh graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in creative writing and attended the MFA program for creative writing at Washington University in St. Louis. He is editor of the Land-Grant College Review, the award-winning literary journal he founded, and earns his living as a fiction writer. Josh was associate producer of “Manhattan, Kansas.”

Producer – Byron Hathorn

Byron is a real estate investor and developer with 30 years experience in the Upper Valley market. Most recently he has focused on investment in commercial real estate projects from the Upper Valley to Boston. He has been an active part of the community serving on the Board of Northern Stage and as a member of the Vermont Transportation Authority. In addition, Byron is a master alpine competitor.

Advisor – Joe Bookchin

Joe is Director of the Vermont Film Commission. He is a film school graduate of New York University and worked at CBS News in New York and later Paramount Pictures and Warner Brothers studios in Los Angeles. He is formerly Director of Film Production at Burlington College.

CARTOON COLLEGE — The Movie's Blurbs
About me:
CARTOON COLLEGE is a documentary portrait about a year in the life of several students at The Center for Cartoon Studies, America’s premiere school for cartooning.

Look for appearances by such notables as Art Spiegelman, James Sturm, Jason Lutes, Lynda Barry, Alison Bechdel, Garry Trudeau, Robyn Chapman, T. Edward Bak, Steve Bissette, Michel Vrana, James Kochalka, Chris Oliveros and a host of uber-talented students and idiosyncratic townsfolk.

CARTOON COLLEGE, a film about a school for cartoonists and a town where the motto has become "draw comics or die," is currently in production. Look for it in theaters, festivals and at your local independent video store sometime in 2009.

CARTOON COLLEGE is funded in part by the generous support of the LEF Foundation and the Drubel Family Fund.

Disclaimer: CARTOON COLLEGE is directed by me, Tara Wray, and I’m not affiliated with CCS other than I think it’s a really great place with a cool story that needs to be told to as many people as possible. I love comics and CCS is a hotbed of talent and you should definitely take a look at the work they’re putting out and also buy some of it while supplies last.

Who I'd like to meet:
You, of course!

Hey, thanks for becoming part of my "friend" space! I'm looking to get more plugged in with creatives worldwide through this social network.

My Xeric grant winning book "Jazz: Cool Birth" is in September's Previews for preorder at comic shops, next Wednesday, a murder mystery in a 1957 jazz bar, with art and type based on '50s album cover design, dig?

Info about comic books as a business and focused ramblings are at ComicArtistsDirect. com. "Adam Among the Gods" and "Seductions" have just been made available to buy online at Aazurn. com. The Aazurn Publishing Saga, a step by step account of creating and selling these comics is there, also. Will work for Michigan wages - have a look at GaryScottBeatty. com.

I'm looking forward to exploring the MySpace pages of all of my new "friends" (Man, does that sound hokey).

Peace!
