Like most true musicians; I have an enormous absolute LOVE and drive for music !
As far as I can remember, it all started with a radio by my bedside.
Listening to all commercial 70's & 80's pop music (radio edits to be exact). Basically growing up on the best songwriting of the 70's to the melodic pop of the 80's into the 90's. I guess you could say I became the expert of radio pop ! Pop Music to be exact.
I never seemed to have a specific interest of any one genre as long as it carried a melody and a meaning that I could relate to. (thus in my mind creating a hit song).
After High School, I studied through college (majoring in music business & audio engineering) and played in night clubs throughout the San Francisco Bay Area singing lead vocals and playing Keyboards & Bass Guitar. In between all that, I rehearsed, read music business books, attended countless music business seminars, and hung out with literally hundreds of musicians throughout my early 20s.
In early 1993, I released my first self-produced original pop CD single entitled "Wish You Were Here" which achieved national commercial radio play on over 340 nationwide network radio stations. Shortly thereafter, through my own efforts of international exploitation; My 2nd single entitled "It's Not A Dream" (co-written with hit songwriter Andre Pessis; who's credits include Huey Lewis & the News, Bonnie Raitt, Waylon Jennings, Mr. Big, and many more) achieved worldwide success and was released on over 30 dance compilations in over 20 territories worldwide.
Due to the initial overwhelming achievements, in 1995, myself & business partner Marc Oshry founded (CAPP Records) an international record label which specialized in licensing commercial dance music to 3rd party record labels globally.
Throughout this term, we focused on the labels growth which led to over 100 signings of new artists and over hundreds of international record deals.
It wasnt until 1999 in which I decided to remix the classic Rolling Stones song "Get Off My Cloud" with my new colleague/co-producer Doug Laurent (who's credits include Culture Beat, Sash!, La Bouche, etc.) that landed us a major record deal with EMI/Capitol Records France and over 100 additional licenses in over 40 territories.
Throughout the last decade, our record label has specialized in international licensing outside the US primarily and expanded to film & television in 2000 as well as digital distribution most recently.
Basically, Dance music has always been there but never in the forefront in the USA. One of my personal goals through CAPP Records is bringing the best of what commercial dance music REALLY has to offer to the consumer as there has been so many horrible releases the past decade that this has only alienated this great genre of music in the United States...
Today- I'm finding myself doing something I never saw myself doing (only because up until this point- I wrote 100% original songs throughout the better part of my career). Now- I'm remixing my personal favorite classic songs of the 80's and producing new upcoming recording artists.
So we'll continue working with our team of the best Producers and Label partners worldwide creating and licensing the most innovative maxi singles with today's cutting edge studio technology.
The music industry is currently re-inventing itself and we are all loving it here at CAPP Records...
