Movies
My favourite movie is probably "The Blues Brothers", if only because I watched it over and over again at an impressionable age. In more recent years, I have loved "The Wicker Man", "City of God", "Pi", "They Live" and, you know, other stuff.
Television
The following TV shows define idiosyncratic old me: The Simpsons, Seinfeld and Curb, along with Nathan Barley, Dare To Believe, Naked Elvis, The Word, Cribs, Passengers, Father Ted, Yo! MTV Raps, Dream On, Lipstick On Your Collar, any thing involving Louis Theroux, The Word, The Fall and Rise of Reggie Perrin, Alan Partridge, Bullseye, The Big Breakfast, Friends (you know you like it too!), Sushi TV (Craig Charles is so unfunny, it verges on genius), Transworld Sport, Are You Being Served, Catchphrase (in the Roy Walker epoch) and Football Italia (mainly because of the theme tune, and that little, suave, bald guy).... the Brazilian version of "No Deal Or No Deal" was good too.
Books
It's more Italo-disco than Italo Calvino for me at the moment, but my brain periodically overloads on superficial ephemera, and hankers for a good book again... Or at least it used to!
I like to view reading as a purely aesthetic device on public transport. I point my Greek tragedies in the direction of the naughtiest looking girl on the bus, and wait for the mystique to kick in.... I also like to read Saki on the toilet, but only while my laptop is charging in the other room.
You probably wouldn't guess that I did an English Literature degree.
Heroes
....
My hero is Roberto Baggio. He briefly converted me to Buddhism during the World Cup of '94.
Raquel Welch and Gisele Bundchen also deserve a mention, although it is debatable whether or not sexual arousal can be justifiably deemed as heroic..
About me:
Here's a little potted history. I was born in Brighton in 1981. I didn't do an awful lot in the 80s apart from develop my walking, talking and butt-boarding skills, and get freaked out by Max Headroom and Michael Jackson's Thriller.
In 1992, I came to the attention of the press for the first time ("Casper Clark cracked 10 goals as Coral Greys thrashed Gatwick United 15-3 in the Sussex Sunday Mini Minor League"- The Evening Argus.... In the same year, I also purchased this....
... for £105!! It wasn't long before I was arguably Brighton, if not the universe's greatest afficionado of the game... My skills weren't limited to Street Fighter 2 Turbo, however, as before long I was also setting records on the likes of Super Mario Kart and Starfox.
In 1996, I mourned the death of actor and poet Tupac Shakur.
By 2002, and following an English degree from Kingston University, I had pretty much grown out of computer games at last, and turned my full attentions to a life of predatory heterosexuality, with a couple of blips along the way amongst the confusing hedonism of Brazil.
The ridiculous pretence of a jetset existence continued with stints living in Buenos Aires and Barcelona, before I asked myself the question "who am I kidding?", and endeavoured to lead a life less iniquitous. And now I live in Camden Town.. which is nice, apart from the part that you've been to..... Let's be friends...?
Who I'd like to meet: More wheat, easy on the chaff.
