About me:

ASPCC stands for Associated Students of Portland Community College. ASPCC is the student government that represents student needs and serves as a united voice for students on campus. We advocate for students in committees district-wide and bring a student opinion to the table when discussing issues such as educational programs, allocation of funds, bond measures, security, transportation, cafeteria issues, legislative advocacy, textbooks, facilities, and much, much more! In short, we make sure that PCC takes students into account when deciding on it's varied policies. We also organize campus and district programming by hosting events of all kinds year-round. The programming division consists of Social Programs, Community Service and Diversity programming. For more information on the kinds of events we host, check out our "Events we do" page. Next to the programming team, we also have an executive team. The executive team consists of the Student Body President, the Legislative Director, the Environmental Sustainability Coordinator, and the Social Programs coordinator. The executive team's collective goal is to address budget issues and funding. The legislative director is in charge of actively informing and engaging students about political issues and registering people to vote, as well as bringing political issues and candidates to the campus and engaging students in a dialog about legislation and politics. The Student Body President acts as point of contact between PCC's administration and student government, and works on bringing issues from the PCC administration to the group. He is also present at PCC Board Of Directors meetings and is the chair of several committees. Our third area of focus is sustainability. This year, for the first time, we have an Environmental Sustainability Coordinator who exclusively works for ASPCC. The Enviro Coordinator works with students, student government and PCC committees and staff to promote the idea of sustainability on campus through events, outreach, and other activities. Intramurals is staffed by ASPCC's very own Intramurals Coordinator. Intramurals seeks to get students involved on campus by organizing large and small scale sporting events and tournaments, ranging from volleyball and soccer tournaments to bowling nights and video game tournaments. Last but not least, the Outreach Coordinators Day/Night are in charge of running the student lounge, the first point of contact with student government for students. The Outreach Coordinators seek to make students feel comfortable on campus, provide them with advice and information, help them out with any questions, and actively inform them of ASPCC's goals and programs through tabling, advocacy, events and other outreach work.

  • Books

The student book exchange takes place three times a year, during the first week of term-except summer term. The book exchange is a great way to get cheap textbooks and save money! How we sell books: You bring your book(s) to us that you would like to sell. We accept books during the last week of the previous term and the first three days (Cut-off is the first wednesday of the term at noon) of the new term. The earlier you get your books in, the greater the chance that they will sell. You fill out a short form with your contact details and the specifics about the books, along with the price you think you can get for the books. We handle the selling of the book. It costs you 50 cents to list a book. Seperate books count as one book if they are part of a set. You pocket the rest of the money! You'll receive a receipt when you fill out your book-list form which you can then bring to us on the Monday and Tuesday of the second week of term to get either your money or your books back if they haven't sold. How you buy books from us: Outside of The Underground is a window through which we sell books. There are lists outside the window with all the listed books that we have. Please check the list before you step up to the window, it is difficult to find the book you want otherwise. All books are identifiable through a tracking number which is the number on the very left of the list. We try and keep the list as up-to-date as possible, but sometimes books will have sold but still be listed. We cannot change prices on books in the book exchange, because the prices are set by the students that give us their books. Tell us the number of the book you'd like, and we will find it for you if it is still available. You can then take a look at it and decide to buy it. We only accept cash (We really mean this, we do not have the capability to accept debit/credit cards, checks, financial aid) and we don't offer refunds, so please have cash on hand and be sure you know which books you need for which class. If you have any questions, ask a staff member on hand! Why come to us? The PCC Bookstore is a great place for school supplies and new textbooks, but you make only a small portion of money back if you participate in the book buyback, typically half of the used price. For example, a $100 textbook would bring you maybe only $15-20 at the buyback. Textbooks often sell for very competitive prices at the book exchange. You may be able to recover almost the full price of a textbook, this is the case for expensive AP books as well as Math books, but other subjects as well. Usually, you will make significantly more money than at the Bookstore Buyback. We have used textbooks even when the bookstore has run out! Used texbooks at the bookstore are in limited supply-most of the time, you will not be able to still get a used book after school has started. We sell used books for all classes for the entire first week of term! Also, all of the money you pay goes directly to a fellow PCC student, not a company. Support your school, support your fellow students!
