I'm a part of a revolution that began 2000 years ago and have great joy knowing that it will continue on long after I'm gone. I haven't always been like this, though. Prior to this, my life was defined by anxiety, depression, partying, girls, and the desire to be famous. All of this vain and empty living led me to the point where on July 5, 1995 at 1:45 a.m., as I was drinking and driving, I hit a friend who ran out into the street and killed him.
Prior to this point in my life, I didn't really care about religion, or anything having to do with it. Sure I would get into drunken discussions about what I thought, but quite honestly, what does a drunk 16 year old know about God, except for what he currently feels is reality in his current existence? Everything 'spiritual' about me was created by my opinions and quite honestly was designed to foster a sense of worship with me at the center. I guess you could call that a form of idolatry, but even more, it was a lack of information and a reality of me not having eyes to see and ears to hear...
Following the crash, God began a process of drawing me to Himself. During this journey I began reading the New Testament in the Bible and began learning about Jesus. It turns out He is not a white guy with a British accent that wants all your money... He is the Son of God who out of submission to His Father gave His life as a payment for sin. However, the story didn't end there. God killed Him, but did not leave Jesus in the grave. Three days following Jesus' death, God rose Him from the dead and after a season ascended Jesus into Heaven where He now sits awaiting the Father's command to return. Upon this realization I felt desperate because I realized that my life of 'shooting God the finger' landed me in a place where I was at odds with Him, and helpless to do anything in my own power to reconcile that.
It was at that point where God saved me. Through this realization of my helplessness without Him, and His desire to forgive me and make me new, I trusted in Jesus. Now, if you are from the South, you have heard people say, "Trust Jesus as your personal Lord & Savior," and I would agree with that and say that is 2/3's true. However, the other point that I have come to realize in this whole 'Jesus Thing' is that He does save people from sin, death, and Hell, but He is also saving them into a personal, dynamic relationship with Himself. It is also true that the invitation isn't merely a cheap form of Americanized fire insurance, but a call to submit to the leadership of Christ in your life. However, if you combine these two together, without the final point I am about to make, you have a distant relationship that leads to an obedience that often breeds discontent. That is why it is also important to understand that He invites us to value Him most highly as our treasure, which in turn leads us to true, satisfying, life giving worship of the Risen One...
So, at the age of 17, God saved me from the eternal consequences from my sin and began making me a new creature adopted as His child through Jesus Christ. The journey, now almost 10 years later has been bumpy at times, but my greatest source of joy and life. I am now at a season in life where God allows me to travel throughout the US and at times parts of Europe speaking to students, primarily ages 12-22, not only sharing His Story and how it has affected my life, but also teaching from the Bible in a way that people can connect with. People often say I am A.D.H.D. friendly...
In 2001, I married my high school sweetheart, Stephanie, who is my love, my best friend, my partner, and the most important person on this planet to me. She's a great gal and I love her dearly...

Hey Casey, I just wanted to let you know that all of us girls from Throckmorton loved your preaching. I really don't know what else to say except thank you, oh and have a happy birthday, the weird thing is, is that your birthday is the same day as my great grandmother and my grandfather's.
