Cassette Kids are the act to watch on the Australian live scene. With their unique sound and encapsulating lead singer, the quartet have been turning heads with their energetic and passionate show. This band is only just breaking into its stride, and after whipping up stages all over the country on The Presets’ sold-out national tour, they’ll be back again headlining their own tour in October/November.
Live, Cassette Kids’ explosive indie guitar fuzz causes sweat-drenched hysteria. Captivating vocalist Katrina Noorbergen stamps and stomps her way around stage, hollering through a mop of blonde while backed by dizzying lead guitar effects (Daniel ‘Techno Dan’ Schober), impetuous bass solos (Daniel Deitz) and galloping drums (Jacob Read-Harber). Complementing their dazzling performance with fun and personality, the Cassette Kids’ live experience is an engaging combination of primal energy and attitude.
Perhaps the hardest-working band in Sydney, they have already clocked up innumerable gigs both locally and nationally and their burgeoning reputation has seen them support some of the hottest international and homegrown talent. On the bill for acts including Ting Tings, New Young Pony Club, Crystal Castles, Van She and Muscles, the bands they have supported are now some of their biggest fans.
Their debut seven-track mini-album release entitled ‘We Are’ captures that on-stage energy and nothing is lost in the studio. Noorbergen’s lyrics and delivery are full of attitude in ‘You Take It’ a dance floor filler featuring Schober’s screaming lead guitar. New favourite ‘Anywhere But Home’ is a twisting, turning party song which is likely to become a summer soundtrack. ‘Acrobat’ and ‘Forwards Backwards’ are also stand outs on the record, and complete a very strong collection of songs.
As their star continues to ascend, Cassette Kids’ are ready to rock their own 18 date tour plus Parklife and Stereosonic all before December. With fire in their bellies and armed with the mini-album ‘We Are’ to be released in October, Cassette Kids are ready to damage dance floors across the country.
