Seven years after bursting into Calcutta’s music scene with its emotionally charged brand of original alternative rock, Cassini’s Division continues to make fresh and innovative music, earning accolades and adding to its considerable fan base.
Cassini’s Division, as always, continues to evolve and develop its distinctive brand of hybrid rock, fusing elements of hip hop and pop music with soaring anthemic melodies and the power of heavy rock music. Lyrically as well as musically the band has developed a more inclusive approach thereby reaching outside the rigid confines of stereotypical genre-based sounds.
Essentially a power trio fronted by a rapper/ singer, the band’s live act is what sets it apart from run-of-the-mill rock groups. The Cassini’s Division live experience is one in which the wall between the performer and audience is torn down, leading to a free flow of emotion where the listener and band become almost one through the spiritual power of the music. While frontman Rahul Guha Roy brings the audience into the music with his inimitable charm and unflagging energy, John, Sukanti and Ludo provide both solidity and power, thundering through the set with confidence and élan. It is this unusual combination of vastly different musical personalities and sounds that make a Cassini’s Division gig truly special.
