Matt Rohde (Hammond Organ): Matt began playing piano at age seven, and his love for music and desire to perform was fueled by rockstars of the 1970s, such as Ted Nugent, Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, the Eagles and others. He is a graduate of Berklee College for Music. After spending time in Boston, Minneapolis and Atlanta, he eventually moved to Los Angeles in 1997. He has either recorded or performed live with a host of world famous artists, including Jane's Addiction, Maxwell, Alanis Morisette, J Lo, Kelly Clarkson, Isaac Hayes, Roger Daltrey, Gary Wright, Ricky Martin, Christina Aguilera, as well as dozens more well known artists.
Chris Golden (upright bass): Chris grew up in Eugene, Oregon where he began playing bass at age eleven. He later attended Berklee College of Music to study electric and acoustic bass performance as well as Jazz composition. Chris now lives in Los Angeles, California where he has had the pleasure of recording or performing with notable acts such as Rod Stewart, Brian Auger, Exzibit and Mick Fleetwood.
Jimmy Paxson jr. (drums): Jimmy is the son of two accomplished Philadelphia jazz musicians. Growing up in a household influenced by great 70's fusion music and the drumming of Tony Williams , Elvin Jones , Lenny White , Billy Cobham , fused with the wackiness of Soopy Sales , Monty Python , and Benny Hill coming off the television ... it is no wonder why he is such a truley perverse drummer. Though accepted at Julliard by age eleven, it is his years studying in Los Angeles under the tutelage of the late, great Murray Spivack that best honed his skill and style. Jimmy has recorded and/or performed live with Stevie Nicks , Alanis Morissette, Edgar Winter , Sophie B. Hawkins , Rod Stewart, Steve Vai, Ronnie Montrose, Robben Ford, Zohar(uk) and Glen Hughes.

The Casualties of Jazz originated on the west coast while working with other touring and recording acts.
The story goes ....
In 1998 Drummer Jimmy Paxson was on the road with guitarist Ronnie Montrose.
During that tour at sound check at the now defunct Palookaville club in Santa Cruz , Ca. a random conversation with a stranger named Brian Crumrine (who was the drummer from the opening band band that night) led to the suggestion that Jimmy should check out his friend bassist Chris Golden .
Later when they met, Chris Golden suggested his friend Matt Rohde join them and the trio was born.
The trio's name was at the accidental suggestion of bassist Chris Golden during their two-year stint playing jazz every Monday night at a local bar in Burbank ca.
After 2 years of Mondays the trio decided their residency had taken it's toll on them and an open minded hiatus ensued.
A later date in time found the coj rhythm section Chris Golden and Jimmy Paxson performing on Rod Stewarts Great American Songbook Vol. II where they met J.J. Blair, who was engineering the session.
In the midst of that recording an "inbetween takes" tounge-in-cheek bass and drums moment of "sweet leaf" caught the ears of j.j. Blair who thank god pressed record and so be it the concept for "Kind of Black" was realized.
The third member of their trio, Matt Rohde, was recruited to play Hammond organ for the project and once again the Casualties of Jazz were back together , re-emerged , re-defined and have continued ever since.
NO ZEROS OR ONES WERE HARMED IN THE RECORDING OR EDITING OF THIS MUSIC. THIS ALBUM IS GUARANTEED 100% ANALOG UNTIL MASTERING.
