Catch-it Kebabs are at the forefront of the current British ska movement and are loving every minute of it. Yorkshire based 9-piece are renown their eclectic string of styles under their belt ranging from blazing ska/punk & peppy 2-tone to surging 3rd wave ska & sassy swing-core. The band takes pride in pushing the boundaries of these genres, producing non-stop party tunes aimed squarely at the dance floor. ‘If your legs aren’t moving, then you are dead’ reported Ben Patchnik from ‘Big Cheese Magazine’ raving about their 2nd album ‘Return of the Kebabulance’. Whist in Tromso, Norway another journalist described their live performance as, ‘Tighter than Norwegian immigration politics, but much more fun’, which encapsulates the boundless energy which is expressed on the stage, and it is this reason why Catch-it Kebabs remain one of the most loved UK ska acts on the music scene.
Over the years the band have played alongside the cream of the worlds ska, reggae and punk bands, including Rico (Specials/Jooles Holland), Dead 60s, Streetlight Manifesto, The Toasters as well as many, many more. It is these high profile events enabled the band to build a huge fanbase across the UK, this coupled with a dedicated Street Team enables the band to promote heavily to their potential fan base.
The act has been regularly featured on Radio 1’s ‘The Lock-up’, as well as appearing in national distributed publications such as ‘Sound on Sound’, ‘Scooterist’ and ‘Big Cheese Magazine’, the latter has continually given high praise in respect to both the live shows and albums. The band has also appeared on many of the world’s ska related webzines and podcasts, most recently as special guests for the ‘Pressure Drop’ podcast which has 8500+ subscribers!
You would think that the wear and tear of the last seven years may have slowed the band down. Fortunately for the UK and international ska scene there’s no stopping this eighteen-legged ska monster. In this time the band has logged roughly around 500 shows across the UK, not to mention a stint to the North Pole (and back!) and their infamous Tour in a Day - a world record attempt of nine gigs in nine counties in 24 hours, in which they managed six out of nine gigs fuelled mainly by Relentless energy drink– one of the sponsors of the tour who helped the band in raising money for the Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital. Not to be beaten, they are now planning the sequel to tour in a day - six gigs in six countries in 24 hours, planned for mid-2009.
To date the band have released two records, their debut album ‘Skankin’ Sausages’ was released on Do the Dog Music in 2004, and was recorded by Steve Whitfield (Known for his work with The Cure, The Mission and Terrorvision). The bands 2nd record was recorded by former MTV mash-up producer Tim G, and the album ‘Return of the Kebabulance’ was released on Riot Music in 2006, both records received great reviews in the UK magazine press as well as internet communities/zines like Absolutepunk and Europunk (The biggest for the genre on the web).
It wasn’t until 2007 that the band was cemented as a major force on the international ska scene when they were featured alongside the cream of the worlds ska bands such as Voodoo Glow Skulls, Mustard Plug, The Planet Smashers, The Toasters and Streetlight Manifesto on the ‘Ska is Dead’ compilation released by Household Name Records.
Currently the band are working on their third album, ‘Broken Vans and Master Plans’ on their own label, Feet First Records, with a view to licence the record to independent labels in Europe, America, Japan and Australia. A tour of Europe is also pencilled in for late 2009.
