BUY the 2008 REVISED Caterer REPRINT from FLOATING WORLD COMICS, with EXTRA BONUS STUFF! Pearl Comics was the comics company founded by the metal-handed Jean-Paul Drapeau in New York in late 1973. The company was responsible for a small number of cult titles including Rocket Trouble, The Mauve Enforcer, John's New Strides, The Caterer and Fantastic Belt (a sort of Wonder Woman analog). Pearl titles were characterized by the tendency of the characters to go wildly "off-script" and the absolute impossibility of knowing where the story would subsequently go. In the first issue of "Fantastic Belt" Mrs Henderson is struck by lightning when carrying a metal sculpture of a sprig of sage through an electrical storm, but gains no powers - the episode is completely irrelevent. In Rocket Trouble, Captain Karpinski wonders constantly what life would be like if he were someone else with a different job and in a fair universe. The flagship title was The Caterer, written by science fiction author Jeff Lint. Its stories of a strangely grinning blond jock, Jack Marsden, were surreal and urgent. Like Hasek's Soldier Svejk, Marsden may be mentally ill or hyper-sane, as he sets fires and delivers diatribes about 'lusty dogs'. Artist Brandon Sienkel pioneered the Marsden 'stillness', in which the hero stands entirely immobile for several panels for no reason while those around him worry. Marsden seems to be one of Lint's 'trickster' characters. The title brought Pearl Comics to an end in 1976 when the 9th and final issue portrayed a shooting spree in a barely-disguised Disneyland, and the subsequent court proceedings brought by Disney bankrupted the comics company. JP Drapeau later attacked Jeff Lint with a broken bottle, but could not hold the weapon securely with his metal hand. The attack failed.

My debut novel, The Cuckoo Parchment and the Dyke, has just launched. If you get a chance I'd be grateful if you'd go to my profile to find out more. The story's about Dada, art and artists, and the attempt to instigate revolution by means of art.
I hope this finds you in rude health? Keeno’s made a new film at last! But Beware, he was riddled and dosed up on Night Nurse. Deranged out of his mind!

Hi and best wishes from Fruits de Mer Records, a very small but almost perfectly-formed new psych/folk/prog rock label.
Keep checking out our site for old and new videos, all the latest on our first release (The Small Faces' Ogden's Nut Gone Flake meets Van der Graaf Generator's Theme One - both by the brilliant Schizo Fun Addict - a very limited coloured vinyl pressing, just 300 copies worldwide)
PLUS early news on our next two projects, with Mellow Candle's Alison O'Donnell, featuring new versions of classic Nico and Nick Drake songs (especially a great version of 'Frozen Warninings') and Spanish neo-psych band called 'Stay' covering tracks by The Rolling Stones, Graham Nash and Strawberry Alarm Clock.
Both releases will be very limited, colour vinyl issues.
Hope you and your friends enjoy the site and what we're doing, do let us know!
