Review by VM Magazine
Formed from the ashes of several local bands in April 2005, and drawing new blood from North-West of England; Scottish based Catharist [formerly Questioned By Theory], write heavy aggressive technical metal, with an underlying sense of melody and frequent nods to the 1980s Bay Area thrash scene. Whilst drawing influence from several death metal bands and also hardcore and black metal genres, the sound of Catharist could be described as modern thrash/melodic death metal. Utilising twin guitar harmonies, powerful vocals, skilled bass work, guitar solos and rousing choruses.
A name change from "Questioned By Theory" to "Catharist" was brought about in early October '06 after months of debate. The old name spanned many members, genres and just didnt fit in with the music, or ultimately portray the band anymore.
