Cathedra formed in 2002 in Palmerston North, and have since seen some lineup changes as well as a major location change, with the entire band moving to Wellington for University.
With influences such as Lamb of God, At the Gates, The Black Dahlia Murder and Darkest Hour, it is somewhat suprising that during their highschool years the metal band did considerably well in the Smokefree Rockquesting, gaining 1st place at the Manawatu Rockquest Regional Finals two years in a row, as well as a place in the semi finals, ranking them in the top 11 highschool bands in the country.
Cathedra have done a NZ tour and are continuously playing throughout New Zealand with local and international acts such as: 8 Foot Sativa, Ulcerate, Die!Die!Die!, The Jonestown Syndicate, Stronger than Hate, New way home, Sinate, Goodnight Nurse, Akaname, and have also appeared as the guest band in certain Rockquest regional finals. Cathedra are still on the prowl for more international support slots.
With a 7track EP out, recorded in 2004, as well as a two track demo, the band have plans to record again later this year. Other plans for Cathedra are another national tour, this time including the South Island, as well as an Australian tour.
