Influences
My early influences were Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Johnny Horton, the Osmonds, Marie Osmond and The Carpenters. Later influences were Olivia Newton John, Linda Ronstadt, and Country artists and groups such as the Oak Ridge Boys, Alabama, Tanya Tucker, Patty Loveless. Also, Christian artists such as Sandi Patti, Amy Grant and Carman. In the 90's, my music influences were Country artists such as Reba McEntire, Terri Clark, Faith Hill, George Strait and groups such as Lonestar and all the artists mentioned from the past. These are all my current music influences as well, and I adore them ALL!!
Sounds Like
I like to think I have a unique sound, all my own. It is a combination of all of my "Inflences" that I listed, plus a sound that is all my own. It is not all Country, not all Pop. I would say it's a combination of both, leaning towards Country.
I was born in Portland, Oregon. I've been living in Ohio now for 28 years. From the time I was about 4 years old, I have been singing in one way or another. My mom used to say that I was born with a microphone in my hand, and I believe it, because I ADORE performing onstage!! I remember as a child doing shows with my brothers and sisters for our guests at our house when they would come over, and I loved singing solos for our guests! I was always in choir both in school and in church. I've also been involved in choirs as an adult. In the 1980's I performed in a Christian choir with a full orchestra that performed at the Palace Theater every year for several Christmas concerts. I was often selected to do the solos for choir concerts, and I performed in a few musicals as well. My sisters and I also performed often at church, always by request. I did not play an instrument, but I sure love to sing! I now play percussion instruments and I am planning on learning to play the keyboard as well.
My biggest inspiration in my singing and songwriting, as well as my spiritual and family inspiration are the Osmonds. I have loved them since the early 1970's, and I love them more now than ever before!! They are a WONDERFUL family, and truly a blessing to the world!!! I am very proud to say that they inspired me more than anyone else has. Some of my other musical inspirations are, Olivia Newton John, Linda Ronstadt, Patsy Cline, Lynn Anderson, Johnny Cash, Johnny Horton, the Carpenters, Anne Murray, the Oak Ridge Boys, James Taylor, Barry Manilow and several others from the 70's and 80's. I also admire several Christian artists, such as Amy Grant, Sandy Patty, Carman, Susie McEntire-Luchsinger, Bill Gaither, Hillsong, Twila Paris, just to name a few. Some of the Country artists that I admire are Reba McEntire, Patty Loveless, Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Tanya Tucker, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Lonestar, Alabama, The Oak Ridge Boys, Vince Gill, Marty Stuart, and so many others. My main singing style is Country, whether it's Country/Pop or Country/Gospel or just plain COUNTRY!! I am a country girl all the way!!! I love the sound of that fiddle and the steel guitar playing soft and loud, and making the kind of music that you love to dance and sing to!! I have performed full-length concerts, and I've performed just a couple songs competing in several contests. Some of the contests were karaoke (and I won a couple of them!), and some were with live bands. I have also performed in churches and at various festivals and institutions. I would love to perform on a cruise ship!! :-)
The greatest desire of my heart, and I truly believe my purpose in this life, is to make as much of a significant difference in as many people's lives as possible through my music, my writing and my own personal testimony. I want to make a significant difference in the world! This is what I am determined to do, and what God has put in my heart to do. I love writing songs, but I also write poems and I am working on a couple books as well. My "other" passion is natural healing and natural health, and I love sharing my knowledge of natural healing and supplements with people. I love learning about it, and I am happy when I see others taking my advice about certain things concerning natural health and natural healing, and I see them feeling better when they do. I am also very passionate about nature in general, and I do love to write about it as well. Most of my music revolves around Country and being NATURAL, so it only seems right that this would be another one of my passions.
My greatest philosophy in life, and my favorite saying is, "WHETHER YOU SAY YOU CAN OR CANT.....YOU'RE RIGHT!!" And my favorite scripture is Isaiah 41:10 which says, "So do fear for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand". And, in closing, Phillipians 4:23 "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit". God bless you all!!
