A LITTLE BIT TOO FAR
This is the story of many r'n'roll resurrections and near-death experiences
The band was born in the declining eighties when Olli Barbé, former singer and guitarist of Belladonna, meets, at the Rex Club, in Paris, Michel Pourcelot, aka Michel P. and Angel Face, issued from bands of Dijon like Norma Loy, Alice et les Pickpockets, Sister Ray/Slow Dazzle (with François Huet from Snipers fame), DZ Lectric and NNEnd (with Christian Dezert, aka DZ, another legend of the burgundian town), a no named band with Bruce Witsiepe from the New York "No Name Band" (better known as Circle X...). Permanent members through the nights and the years, Michel and Olli launched the long and torn adventure of this band who has never really searched for record companies. Just playing the r'n'roll games 'till the edges, often bringing the band a little bit too far.
Ups and downs
One of the most forgotten french bands, The Catholic Boys, played their own compositions and occasional covers from The Velvet Underground and The Animals... Their influences range from The Stooges and The Modern Lovers, Neil Young and The Sex Pistols, The Troggs and DMZ, Captain Beefheart and The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Leonard Cohen and The Sweet, Can and The Chocolate Watch Band, Young Marble Giants and Wasted Youth, Cabaret Voltaire and Jim Carroll, Wayne County and Gérard Manset, The Who and Richard Hell, Teenage Jesus and The Rolling Stones, The Velvet Underground and The Pretty Things, Psychic TV and The Real Kids, Patti Smith, Gang of Four and The Saints, Peter Murphy and The Flamin' Groovies, to John Waters and Jim Harrison... The Catholic Boys played, not to mention the infamous "Ascension Tour", here and there : from Rheims to Rouen (in a ... church), from Périgueux to Pigalle (the late New Moon, a longtime homeplace, The Elysées-Montmartre, opening for Midnight Oil).
Torn and frayed
The band has known many rebirths with three different line-ups but the same faith. In spite of mad managers (today dead or disapeared) and with a little help from their friends : Dogs,
Fleshtones,
Coronados, Saïgon,
Cherokees,
Philippe Almosnino,
Tony Truant and Kurt Cobain,
Michel's friend, who left France with a demo, wanting the band to sign in the USA, saying it was sounding something like Mudhoney. Song he prefered : "I Hate Love". Think what you want. Anyway, everybody knows how the story ended one month later. The Catholics Boys survived slow deaths and other fairy tales. They use to comeback sometimes, playing rarer gigs, with a new rythm section and a third guitarist, Mickey Finn,(Heavy Metal Kids, Higelin, Nino Ferrer...).
The Catholic Boys have never broken up although they almost touched heaven and hell.

qu’un concert sur une péniche serait du meilleur goût. Oui, mais Pedro n’aime
pas le poisson (beurk), Jl est malade en bateau (encore plus beurk), Paco est
un pilote de hors bord militant qui n’aime pas les bateaux qui se traînent (il
trouve çà beurk) et en plus sofff préfère que le bateau reste à quai au cas où
quelqu’un aurait le mauvais goût d’arriver à la bourre (ce serait… ok stop).
Résultat ? Vous les retrouverez accompagnés de Rosemary sur la péniche
Antipode le 10 décembre à partir de 20h pétantes (le bateau sera à quai mais
c’est pas une raison pour être à la bourre) face au 55 quai de Seine, Paris 19ème
et le concert sera à 5 euros (une broutille pour un épisode unique façon la
croisière s’amuse)

“Once & for all" is the title of Still Nasty’s upcoming LP. Recorded and mixed in Crab Studios, in Madrid, produced by José López and Still Nasty, and later mastered in Hollywood's own Precision Mastering Studios, by Ron Boustead, in Los Angeles (USA). A whole lotta hard rock, atmospheres, and a touch of stoner make up these Spaniard's debut, Distributed by Alone Records/The Stone Circle.

"Once & for all" es el título del primer LP de Still Nasty. Registrado y mezclado en los estudios Crab de Madrid, cuenta con la producción de José López y Still Nasty, siendo masterizado por Ron Boustead, en los hollywoodienses Precision Mastering Studios, de Los Angeles (USA). Mucho hard rock y atmósferas, con ataques del denominado stoner rock, configuran el debut de los madrileños, que cuenta además con interesantes colaboraciones (Marta Ruíz, de Sex Museum/Poliester, Robertez, de Motociclón, entre otros). Distribuido por Alone Records/The Stone Circle.
Suite
à la mise sur orbite par Cap Carnaval du festival Gone and roll, nos 5
musiciens se sont trouvés fort dépourvus, la bise étant méchamment venue.
Sofff
a noyé son chagrin dans les guimauves grillées au feu de camp, Paco dans le
diesel et la graisse de moteur, Palem dans le cinéma expérimental Suisse des
années 80, Pedro dans la dernière rediffusion de Koh Lanta et JL dans les boîtes de nuits branchées d’une capitale trop
petite pour un désespoir trop grand. Pendant ce temps Snifff (le chat) enfin
rentré de son dernier colloque
« Maow : significations intrinsèques du malaise félin à l’aube du
virtuel ou cyberculture et croquettes l’antinomie est à nos portes bordel »
qui se déroulait à Minneapolis se battait pour réorganiser la suite de la
tournée mondiale en France.
C’est
donc accompagnés de Julia Battle et Staircaise Wisp qu’ils donneront assaut aux
Disquaires (Paris le 27 octobre, 20h30, entrée libre) Et le 31 octobre qu’ils
en remettront une couche avec Moon Reapers au Prado en plus c’est Halloween
donc tout peut arriver (Rouen, 21h00, 2 euros tarif syndical).
