  • Bio

Cathy is performing exclusively with the extremely talented singer/songwriter Jim Gill. They primarily play original music in the folk/rock vein, and perform all across Northeast and Central Ohio. She is a former member of the progressive rock band Uzizi, combining centuries old sacred harp singing with a modern 5-piece band. Cathy was a founding member of Los Angeles-based Pushing Air, and played fiddle in the bluegrass bands Taproot and The Crooked River Fire Brigade. Past performances include The Chieftains (traditional Irish), Mo’ Mojo (zydeco), as well as playing for three seasons in The Huntsville Symphony. She is a versatile artist, able to teach and perform folk, classical, Irish, bluegrass, Scottish, and jazz music. In recent years, she has performed at all manner of functions, including but not limited to bookings with various bands, studio recording, weddings, funerals, corporate functions, classical orchestral concerts, old-time ice cream socials, fiddle competitions, church and temple services, and jam sessions. Cathy studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music and is a graduate of the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. She studied with John Kochanowski, Kathryn Plummer and members of the Blair String Quartet. She has been teaching private violin, viola and fiddle lessons in the Cleveland, Ohio area for the last sixteen years.

    It's an unusual day...
I'm not sure which forces are at play...

Someone...Something is taking the structure apart...
    brick by brick...layer by layer
from the skin to the heart...
Who is behind this slow...dismantling of my soul...?
    Who is behind the tolls?

I feel like a handful of clay...
    being remanufactured today...
slowly being moulded in to what I need be…
    Who is sculpturing me?
    Which artist?
    Which hand?
    Who is in command?

I feel more strength in my heart and bones...
     I simply never feel alone…
I feel someone is always there...
and that my soul is in their care...

What relationship are you to me?
Expose yourself so I can see...
Who is sailing this ship...guiding me?
And when I feel I may come apart...
    Who is reinforcing the heart?
Who owns this chisel and knife?
Own up ...own up Dear Life...

Test me if you must test me
But don't let anything break me...
And if I start to fall apart...
    rebuild and remake me...
    I don't mind paying a fair toll
For the chiselling of my soul...

I know I am being mined...
someone somewhere is processing my soul …I'm being refined
I feel a kind chisel and knife...
    reshaping my life...
    Like a piece of coal...
    Dear Life …Chiselling my soul

Hey there Cathy, I hope you don't mind me sayin', but I keep getting you mixed up with that other great fiddler, Alison K.  I'm not sure why - - in my humble opinion you play the violin a whole lot better than she does, and your voice is deeper and fuller than hers.  I guess the only other incidental differences are a truck load of Country Music Awards, 14 International Bluegrass Awards,  26 Grammy Awards, and a jillion in record sales and downloads.   .  .  .  .  Get movin' gal!!

    Well, we're tight like that.

Of course, it helps that I only have 12 friends.
