I like whatevers good and real in itself, too many to name, but ranges from Ray Charles to the Beatles, Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, Caetano Veloso, Leonard Cohen, Led Zeppelin, Otis Redding, Dusty Springfield, Etta James, Roy Orbison, Bessie Smith, Hank Williams, B.Dylan, Emmy Lou Harris, Bjork, Michael Jackson (THRILLER!), Pixies, Velvet Underground, shoegazerock, PJ Harvey, Cat Power, Gillian Welch, Laura Nyro, Dinah Washintgton, Billie Holiday, Rufus Wainwright, Iron and Wine, Tom Waits, Sufjan Stevens, Robert Johnson, Fleet Foxes, Roberta Flack, Bach, Debussy, all my friends especially during late nite jams...in the right mood reggae, punk, or trip-hop. Rumor has it her birth father was a guitar player from Texas; She was mouthing melodies before words. Truth is CAT MARTINO is a voice emerging that draws you in by its natural strength and intimacy. CAT calls her original style of music, “Some kind of Soul”. It’s a little bit folk-indie-rock-blues, born from influences diverse as Laura Nyro, The Beatles, and Bjork... CAT dreamed a sound all her own.

Cat was adopted into the Martino family of Pizza Makers on Long Island, New York, and as a child, riding in the back of the Martino’s 70’s Oldsmobile, she was always singing harmonies to the 8 tracks from times past. Cat played the piano, ate pizza, and preferred making up ditties and neighborhood circuses, to sitting still. She grew up to study minor in music at Rutgers College, while finding her love for dance and choreography to allow her paint pictures with movement. She taught herself piano and guitar, wearing out beloved mix tapes of Joni Mitchell, Otis Redding and the Pixies.

Her forthcoming record, THE SEA CLOSET has already gained eager ears; The lead song TANGERINE DRESS, was chosen by England’s Loose Music for New Sounds of the Old West 2007 Vol 5. . In past years, the respected compilation has celebrated Roots, Americana, and Indie music in such sounds as Calexico, Lambchop, Bright Eyes... Martino has toured internationally, and most recently was invited to open dates for Rufus Wainwright, also playing solo shows throughout Europe. She toured nationally as well in support of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and ex-Ride frontman, Mark Gardener, and various others.
