Most bands cannot claim to have begun the road to rock 'n' roll notoriety in the famous halls of Oxford University, nor could they point to an attempted government coup as the inspiration for their moniker, but then Cato Street Conspiracy are not most bands.
The band pride themselves on providing intelligent lyricism to underpin their high octane, riff-heavy rock 'n' roll. The subject matter of the band's work varies from ensuing environmental disaster (2030) and street violence (Danger!), to dying romances (The Transparency Of Glass) and people's destructive relationship with alcohol (The Ghost Of Simon Taylor), but the message never, ever gets in the way of the riff or the melody.
Having supported the likes of Fighting With Wire, played the Nokia tent at Reading Festival, and received airplay from the BBC and Totalrock, Cato Street Conspiracy are a band on the rise. Their debut EP "The Ghost Of Simon Taylor" received rave reviews when it was released in 2006 and subsequent full length "Monster Attack!" was equally well received in 2007.
The band are now back with the first single to be lifted from album number two. "Promises, Promises..." is a punk rock explosion of melody and harmony melded together into three of the finest minutes of pop you'll hear in 2009. It is the sound of a band truly on their game.
"Promises, Promises..." is released via all good digital retailers on June 29th 2009.
"Monster Attack!" is available now from all good digital retailers and exclusively on CD from www.myspace.com/catostreetconspiracy.

If this three-track demo fails to turn top A&R heads then clearly such A&R bods aren't paying enough attention. This band is surely one of the most exciting around right now, with all three of these tracks proving that when it comes to unleashing jagged guitars and harmonious vocals, CSC are the cream of the crop. 'Light the Vemilion Lanterns' is to all intents and purposes a gigantic wall of guitar sound, but breathtaking melodies craftily duck and dive their way in and out of the sheer noise to stunning effect. The song arrangements couldn't be any more dynamic, and time again this band's music succeeds in being beautiful yet brutal, as tenderness somehow transcends malice with arresting grace. -5/5, Black Velvet Magazine issue 49, summer 2006.
As soon as the opening track 'The Ghost of Simon Taylor' stomped out of the speakers it was clear that this is a band who know exactly what they're doing. The north London band produce perfectly angular rock that hits you with chorus after chorus, riffs, harmonies and grooves of such a quality that you might be fooled into thinking that you're listening to a signed band. 'Light the Vermilion Lanterns' shows a heavier side with a Muse style mosh riff that begs to be played live. This is a band with ability and imagination in giant spoonfuls, hopefully their professional approach will take them far - 8/10, Unsigned Magazine, Summer 2006
Wow, we here at Subba-Cultcha.com are very, very impressed with these guys, a wonderfully produced demo, literally exploding with energy and promise. With a truly vibrant vocalist who veers between the raspy Joe Strummer delivery and the new wave brilliance of Head Automatica. With the gothic noir of My Chemical Romance at their driving best, the powerful shout along choruses of prime Bad Religion and the wondrous distillation of passion and soul that should be driving this band into your hearts in the near future! - www.subba-cultcha.com
This three track EP gives you hope, hope that there are some great British bands are out there. Their mighty sound almost leaps at you from the CD... On CD alone Cato Street Conspiracy blow your mind - RockBeast
Cato Street Conspiracy stole the show with their unique brand of raw melodic rock, boundless energy, and suave rock and roll decadence. They boasted strong melodies and were fronted by a cool, charismatic front man... the band stormed through an impressive set of catchy, well structured melodic rock numbers. Talent in abundance. - www.the-mag.me.uk - live review, July 2005.

Hey guys, once again I'd like to thank you for coming down and giving an air of proffessionalism to proceedings last night. Plus I'd like to appologise once more for the actions of that sub-par band who fucked off, left us both in the lurch and henceforth will recieve no money whatsoever from the night. As the person putting the show together I feel like I was made to look like an idiot and the blame for booking them lies squarely with me.
'Another gig' my arse!
Rant over though, you guys were amazing and really easy to get along with, hope to see you about again soon. Maybe next time you see us we'll have had a decent practice and won't be so pissed off! :D
We've two new T shirts on sale for you.
