Trapped in a parallel universe that keeps them constantly in flux between Denver, CO, and Los Angeles, CA, Cats or Cars plays intelligent indie-pop grounded by Midwest roots and infused with all things computer. The result is somewhat hard to pin down and always eclectic.
We are all heroes.
It's funny, the two songs we've released for public consumption ("Ordinary Heroes" and "The Subtle Knife") both are directly related to things that are HUGE in the entertainment industry right now (NBC's "Heroes" and New Line Cinema's "The Golden Compass); the funny thing is, both songs were written and recorded before either of those entertainment industry shows were created.
"The Subtle Knife," a love song for Lyra from Will, was written because we are huge fans of Phillip Pullman's "His Dark Materials." We were turned on to the trilogy by Aaron Kliner back in 2001. The song was written and recorded in 2004.
"Ordinary Heroes" was written in September of 2005 for a dance piece Daniel's wife, Erika, created about heroes hidden in the everyday. People you pass on the street with secrets. People who are extraordinary on the inside, for whatever reason... and then NBC made a television show.
I want you to know that I didn't accept your friend invite just because you have connections to C-U..
And honestly, I don't usually go for this style of music...
But WOW.
Your music seriously impressed me.
Fantastic stuff!
