Now going into their 3rd year playing together, the Mount Boucherie Senior Jazz Combo is a dynamic group of young musicians who practice, learn and study jazz music, theory and history under the guidance of Mount Boucherie Secondary School Band Teacher Craig Thomson.
The combo is comprised of:
Rebekah Chase- Bass
Tim Hirtz- Piano
Cam Langdon – Tenor Sax
Marshall Rasmussen – Trumpet
Kyle Shannon – Alto Sax
Cam Swallow – Drums
Practices and classes for this group are beyond their regular band and music studies in school and take place out of normal school hours. The band covers many genres and styles making them a perfect mix for any event or celebration. Whether it be classic jazz swing, be-bop,blues, ballads or latin jazz, "Cats without Hats" jazz combo delivers with a tight sound creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for the listener to enjoy. Perfect for receptions, restaurants, corperate functions and community events.
In April 2009, The combo competed at the 33rd annual Interior Jazz Festival taking home first place honours for the intermediate division. Last year the combo had won the grade 10 division. In addition, combo pianist Tim Hirtz took home 4 individual awards (top combo soloist, top rythum section performer, Top instrumentalist in School District 23 and Most Outstanding Pianist) at this years BC Interior Jazz festival.
In March, Cats without Hats, was honoured to open and accompany Juno nominated singer Leora Cashe and the Ross Taggart Trio, for their performance at the Rotary Arts Centre in Kelowna.
The combo has also performed at various community events and fundraisers including the Okanagan Easter Seals 24 hour Relay, Home for the Holidays Kelowna, Okanagan Chef's Association Gala 2008.
