"Hailing from California, Caulfield play really depressing sounding hardcore. Huge crusty parts with a dash of 90's Cleveland hardcore and a bunch of really sad/bleak instrumental breaks thrown in a blender and regurgitated onto this LP as loud as possible. Think His Hero Is Gone meets Integrity meets Neurosis. " -A389
"This isn’t the kind of album that you throw on to sit with your buds, this is the soundtrack in which to enter the dreamscape, by throwing the needle on the record turning the volume up and closing your eyes and lay back and enjoy the visions of chaos enfold." -bringonmixedreviews.com
"There's only two speeds on the CAULFIELD mobile; subtle and arrogant. One minute they are relaxing, everything's low-key with just a bit of guitar. The next minute they've gone into some epic adventures with heartfelt melodies. The minute after that they break out the blood and spikes and no one is safe." -Halifax Collect
"Here's a tricky one, the new s/t LP by Northern California's Caulfield. Tricky in that it's hard to really properly describe what these guys are playing. Down tempo, dark, gruff, crust are all descriptions that I could make. Some rather depressing instrumentals, and obvious black metal leanings in parts too, without sounding like some new-wave hipster recreation. This isn't really what I consider hardcore, nor is it full fledged metal. It's definitely something in between. I guess fans of bands like Thou and Cough will be pleased with this the most, though I wouldn't necessarily say that they are hugely comparable to either of those groups. Regardless, this is the best record that A389 has put out this year, and I'm sure that it will go hugely underrated. Definite top tenner for 2010. " - skullfuckery.blogspot.com
"Every now and then a record will come and blow the roof off the fucking house. Caulfield is that record. Like a fool, I slept on this band; 'Untitled' was purchased with a handful of pre-orders and it was just filed away, perhaps for another day. Needing a respite from the usual rotation, I popped this on and wow..." - Thirty Silver Pieces
"Caulfield hailing out of Sacramento, CA is one of the most bulldozing live bands you will ever see, and this A389records self-titled is unreal. This is a record you must zone out on with the highest of volumes. Caulfield s/t is a record that will be praised in the years to come." - Johnny Funderburg
"Unafraid of long moments of tension-building, whether through isolated and simple, clean guitar lines or long, drawn-out gloom-and-doom guitar harmonies, Caulfield knows how to raise the tension level and offer solid releases through heavy breakdowns, occasional death metal blasts, and even some classic hardcore-esque dirty chugging..." - PunkNews.org
