Bio:

Florida-based Cavity were proponents of the southern - american genre known as sludgecore, and, though perhaps less well known than such peers as Eyehategod and The Melvins, their superlative songwriting talents and apparent disdain of the spotlight has transformed them into quite the cult act. Formed in Miami, Fl circa 1992 by bassist Dan Gorostiaga and vocalist Rene Barge, Cavity championed a harsh, tortured, feed-back drenched brand of hardcore that lay at a polar opposite to the upbeat, danceable, and, for the most part, utterly disposable music dominating the local clubs and airwaves. Recruiting guitarists Raf Luna and John Bonnano and numerous part-time drummers, the band started performing at what few local venues would have them,following up with their first 7" recording and a tour of the east coast supporting friends Eyehategod. By 1995, guitarist Anthony Vialon and drummer Jorge Alvarez had joined the fray, and Cavity released their vinyl-only Human Abjection debut,on their own City Of Crime label, that same year. it quickly sold out of its initial 500-copy pressing, but was later re-issued on cd (along with the earlier 7" material) as 1996's Drowning on renown artist Pushead's Bacteria Sour imprint. A second album, Somewhere Between the Train Station…and the Dumping Grounds (which also spliced two separate sessions into one release) followed later that year, and the Laid Insignificant EP(Also on Pushead's Bacteria Sour Ltd), the year after that. But despite ever-increasing sales and consistently enthusiastic reviews, the band was on the verge of crumbling, and both drummer Alvarez and founding front man Barge suddenly decided to quit. Their timing couldn't have been any worse, as Cavity had just been signed to renowned artist Frank Kozik's Man's Ruin label. Following some time thinking the band's future over, Gorostiaga and Vialon chose to soldier on with the help of second guitarist Ryan Weinstein and drummer Henry Wilson. entering miami's tapeworm studios in the summer of 1998, they soon emerged with the landmark Supercollider LP, which signified a creative and career peak, and instantly vindicated their drive to persist. Striking a perfectly unholy balance between Black Flag and Black Sabbath, the album earned top marks from critics of all stylistic persuasions and figured in many a top-ten lists for 1999. This media euphoria never translated into significant sales outside the deepest heavy metal underground, however, and with the subsequent bankruptcy of Man's Ruin, Cavity's destiny would yet again be set adrift to uncertainty. The band temporarily splintered so that its members could deal with the usual bevy of financial, emotional and personal problems. After a tour with Swedish Post Punkers The Refused, Weinstein left, Vialon quit to move to Switzerland and Barge re-entered the picture. Jason Landrian, who approached Dan at a show months before and offered to play guitar, was asked to audition. Nine days later, newest member Landrian embarked on a tour of the West Coast with the band. After years of toil without a break and no financial restitution, Cavity decided to take a break from their hectic schedule, playing shows sporadically and slowly writing new material. Aaron Turner, President of Hydra Head Records and frontman of ISIS, left an open offer for the band to record an album for his label. In 2001, the band took him up on his offer, joining Hydra Head Records, who are reputed for having a diverse roster of artists.A reunited Cavity began rehearsing together once again. featuring a near-classic formation of Barge, Weinstein, Gorostiaga, Alvarez, alongside new guitarist Jason Landrian, the band recorded the On The Lam LP for Hydrahead, and put the band to rest for the time being. 2008 sees the reissue of the "Laid insignificant" EP with added material (Unreleased songs from the session) on Hydrahead.
