About me:
..
When Station 4 was formed back in 1942 the area of Chicks Beach was called Princess Anne County/Township of Bayside. In the 1960's The City of Virginia Beach was incorperated and Station 4 became 1 of 10 rescue stations in the city. Station 4 is the second oldest rescue corporation in Virginia beach.
When Chesapeake Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad(CBVRS for short) was formed, it was by a group of men named The Bayside Gentlemens Club out of a garage off of Lee Ave. Later it moved to a building in Chicks Beach where the Chesapeake Bay Bridge toll plaza now sits. In the early 1960's the CBBT was starting construction and a land swap took place. The CBBT took the land where our building was and we took the land where our station now sits. The Station was completed and we moved in to it in 1962. We have been in that station ever since and we are one of the few stations that owns our own station and land. The station has changed a bit and additions put on but for the most part its still the same. If you ever get a chance to visit the station, walk into the fire bay and look up. The concrete support beams are left overs from the construction of the CBBT.
CBVRS has three Advance Life Support Ambulances, and has put into service in the past year a F-350 4wd Utility Vehicle called Storm 4, and Kawaski Mule called Cart 4. Storm 4 has 3 roles for the station. One as a Utility vehicle for day to day operations, two as a storm response vehicle for when major storms or hurricanes come through, and three is to pull the trailer that Cart 4 sits on. Storm 4 saw its first action as a storm vehicle when a major storm came through the area and flooded most of the streets in Virginia Beach. It was used to get our ALS providers to 911 calls when their Zone cars couldn't get through. Cart 4 is a 4wd miniture ambulance that has 2 roles. One is to provide medical care and standby's on major events. It has been at marathons, airshows, and other events where large amounts of people are expected. Its second role is also to respond in post storm situations. If a major hurricane came through and leveled areas that made it impossible for ambulances to get into, The cart would be able to get in, provide medical care, and transport the patient out to an ambulance for further treament and transport. Luckily we have not had to use the Cart in that role. CBVRS's members are comprised of people from all walks of life. Our members range in Certifications from First Responders to Emt's to Paramedics. We also have Admin members that do not run duty's on the ambulance but help out at the station with administrative jobs. If interested in volunteering please call us at 757-460-7509.
