Concerned Citizens and some of our members receive public attacks from white citizens of Lamar County Texas who say racism is a figment of our imagination and from black people who say we shouldn't complain because of retaliation. Our response to that is without admitting a problem exists, there can never be a solution. "IF YOU'RE NOT PART OF THE SOLUTION, YOU'RE PART OF THE PROBLEM".....

*BABY COTTON...THE YOUNGEST POLITICAL PRISONER IN TEXAS*
BABY COTTON IS A 14 YEAR OLD CHILD WHO WAS PLACED IN TYC FOR AN INDETERMINATE TERM UP TO AGE 21. SHE WAS A STUDENT AT PARIS HIGH SCHOOL IN PARIS TEXAS. HER MOTHER IS A CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVIST. ARRESTED AFTER SHE WAS INJURED BY A MALE TEACHER AND A FEMALE TEACHERS AIDE, THE CHILD WAS CHARGED WITH "SHOVING" THE AIDE. SCHOOL WRITE-UPS SUCH AS "TARDY" AND "TALKING" WERE USED AS PRIOR OFFENSES. THE COURTROOM WAS FILLED WITH TEACHERS, PRINCIPALS, AND OTHER SCHOOL STAFF. EVEN THE OFFICE WORKERS SHOWED UP FOR THIS MODERN DAY LYNCHING. WHEN THE SENTENCE WAS READ, WHILE THE CHILD LAY WITH HER HEAD DOWN ON THE TABLE SOBBING, THESE SUPPOSEDLY ADULTS IN WHICH BLACK CHILDREN ARE PLACED IN THE CARE OF 7 HOURS A DAY, JUMPED UP LAUGHING, HUGGING AND HIGH FIVED EACH OTHER. A JUROR WHO HAD REMAINED FOR THE SENTENCING, GOT UP AND STARTED HUGGING THE POLICE OFFICER WHO MADE THE ARREST AND WHO ALSO JUST HAPPENS TO BE A TEACHER AT THE HIGH SCHOOL. THE CHILD WAS TAKEN FROM HER MOTHER BECAUSE THE JUDGE DETERMINED HER TO BE UNFIT. HER MOTHER HAD NO HISTORY OF ARRESTS, DRUGS, OR ABUSE. SHE HAD NEVER HAD SO MUCH AS A PARKING TICKET, YET THE JUDGE SAID SHE WAS UNFIT. THE REASON HE GAVE WAS THAT HER MOTHER HAD FILED TOO MANY CIVIL RIGHTS COMPLAINTS AGAINST THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. PISD STAFF HAVE INDICATED THAT SINCE THERE WERE BLACK STAFF PARTICIPATING IN THIS MADNESS, IT COULD NOT BE RACISM. THERE WERE BLACKS WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE PROMOTION OF SLAVERY. THERE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN SOME BLACKS WILLING TO DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GAIN ACCEPTANCE FROM THOSE IN POWER OR TO HOLD ON TO A JOB. IT IS EASIER TO ATTACK THE SLAVE THAN TO CONFRONT THE SLAVE MASTER. THIS IS LIKE A STORY OUT OF THE 1930'S. SUPPORT BABY COTTON.

Concerned Citizens For Racial Equality is a non-profit organization located in Paris Texas. Our organization was formed in 2003. Our goal is help ensure the human, civil, political, educational, social, and economic equal rights of all persons and to aide in eliminating racial discrimination and ensure civil and human rights. We accept and investigate complaints from individuals and assist if possible. According to 2002 Paris Independent School District discipline statistics obtained from The Office of Civil Rights, of all students being disciplined, 85% are listed as black and 15% are listed as white and other. The school lists Hispanic students as "white and other". By doing this, it gives the appearance that white students are being punished at a higher rate than they are. When you go look inside the OCS room, 85% to 95% percent of the students seated there are African or Hispanic. During one meeting with PISD Superintendent Paul Trull and Concerned Citizens For Racial Equality, Trull was asked if he thought black people were worse than white people...His answer "Let me put it like this, who is it you see in prison". If the superintendent thinks black students are worse than white students, there can be no equal treatment. Minor school write-ups are now being used as criminal records in juvenile court. African and Hispanic people must join together to protect our children and protect our human rights. The Black and the Brown should embrace each other as one.

Answering allegations made by the CCFRE

I would like to address the allegations made by Brenda Cherry, president of Concerned Citizens For Racial Equality, against the Paris Branch of the NAACP and The Diversity Task of Force of Paris. Several years ago, Ms. Cherry and her organization joined the Paris Branch of the NAACP. This was during the time all of the charges were being made against the Paris Independent School District with the Regional Office of Civil Rights in Dallas. When the Regional Office of Civil Rights found that the Paris School District had done nothing wrong, the group filed against PISD with the Justice Department of the United States.
The Justice Department sent a mediator (not an investigator) to work with the Paris School District and the Concerned Citizens. The president of the NAACP and several members served as observers for the meeting. Rules were set up and both the school district and the Concerned Citizens were to follow them.
One of the rules was neither group was to talk about what was going on in the mediations. The Concerned Citizens would not obey that rule and the school district broke off the mediation. The Paris School District spent time, money and lost personnel because of the Shaquanda Cotton case. The Concerned Citizens wanted the NAACP to join them in this case but they did not want her records turned over to the redress person of the NAACP. They never want to give you all the facts.
For example, members of the NAACP (I was one of the members) went with them to talk to former Police Chief Karl Louis about an African-American man who had been arrested. The NAACP was told by the mother of the man and the Concerned Citizens that one police officer was harassing the man by following him all the time and a white man had pulled a gun on him for no reason while he was walking by the white man’s house.
During the talk with Chief Louis, concerns were expressed about what we were told happened to the man. I ask Chief Louis if I could tape the meeting and he said yes. Later on I read in the paper the man was on video tape when arrested with drugs and a gun falling out of his pant leg and the white man had caught him trying to break into his truck.
Out of the Shaquanda Cotton case, The Diversity Task Force of Paris was born. The Concerned Citizens have been at every meeting of the task force; at every event they wished to attend; and even hosted one of the U.S, Department of Justice town hall meetings to discuss racial issues. The group says they are unhappy with the Paris school system, public housing and law enforcement, but I suggest the group is unhappy with anyone who doesn’t agree with their agenda.
