CONPTON COODY HODGES was born in GEORGETON, GUYANA, under the Zodiac sign of CANCER. His birthdate is the 5th of JULY.
When an artiste can move his audience as effectively as Compton Coody does, then he projects in his performances, the dedication, determination, sophistication, imigination, hard work and sacrifice that is necessary for the creation of a commulicative direction.
The urge for Compton to express himself musically has always been present. During his younger years Compton sang regularly at concerts and on two of the local radio talent programmes : Teensville and In Search Of a Star.
While he was growing up, he was given the name "Coody" by his friends, because of his love for the coo coo dish and this has stuck with him through out the years.
Compton Coody started singing professionally almost immediately after graduating from secondary and post-secondary institutions. In Guyana, he has been the lead vocalist for several bands including: Playboys, Curtis MGs, Nite People, Dominators, Chronicle Atlantic Steel and Brass Orchestra, GT Music Machine and the Mingles Sound Machine.
Compton was employed in the Banking sector for over 21 years, working at the Guyana National Cooperative Bank (GNCB) from 1975 - 1996. He served tha bank in several capasities while he was there, from the position of Teller/Clerk when he joined to the position of Assistant Manager - Operations when he resigned. Having had formal training in Computer Programming, he also held the position of Systems Analyst in the bank's IT department.
He has toured extensively with some of the bands mentioned, representing his home country Guyana at various festivals and carnivals. Some of the countries he has performed in are: USA, Canada, Brazil, Venezuela, Suriname, Cayane, Trinidad, Barbados, Antigua, Tortola and the Virgin Gourda.
In 1981 he toured several parts of the United States stretching from New York to California and Las Vegas as part of the then GUY AMERICA airline promotional tour.
He was also part of a tour in 1982 that covered all of the provinces of Canada and has performed in Toronto, Ottowa, Montreal, Winnipeg and Regina.
Compton Coody is very competent in handling all styles of music. His versatility allows him to fit in well and be comfortably with Ballads, Pop, Soul, R and B, Funk, Rock, Jazz, Country, Reggae, Calypso and Soca.
He started recording in 1978 when he released his first single: "I Wanna Party" coupled with "Ain't I Been Human" on the flip side. This was followed by two other singles released in 1981 and 1982 entitled: "Pride" and "Let's Steal Away". These were Coupled with "Let The Party Begin" and "Disco Faker" respectively. All of these singles were chart toppers in Guyana and in some parts of the Caribbean.
In 1991, he released his first soca hit entitled "Jam Down TO", as a tribute to the Caribana festival in Toronto Canada. This was done while he was a member of the Mingles Band.
Since then Compton has Released a string of Soca hits, these include: 1998 - "Colour De Rhythm", "Shoo Bee Doo", "Heat", "Massive Jam" and
"Walk Away From Love" (adapted). 1999 - "Who Want To Play", 2000 - "Pon De Mall", 2001 - "Jumping", 2002 - "Extra Soca", 2003 - "Umbrella Party", 2004 - "Balloon City", 2005 - "GT Posse" and "Dem gal Seh", 2006 - "I'm Prepared" and for 2007 - "Bumsey Rolling", "The Carib Anthem" and "De Session Sell Off".
He is an ardent Song Writer and loves to compose. Compton has so far written and co-arranged all of the songs he has recorded and released so far.
Compton's extension in music does not end there. From 2001 to 2004, he took part in the National Calypso Competition in Guyana, performing under the name "Singing Coo Coo". He reached the finals on two occasions. The songs he sang were also compositions of his: 2001 - "In This Land", 2002 - "Lift De Standards", 2003 - "No Respect" and 2004 - "Rumours".
Compton has been awarded many certificates and other tangible gifts for his sterling performances over the years. Of note, in 1989 - he was voted as the "Best Vocal Performer' by the TAA in Guyana. In 2002 he became the Road March Champion in Guyana with his song - "Extra Soca". This feat was repeated in 2003 with the song - "Umbrella Party". While in 2004 he was crowned Soca Monarch in Guyana with his song - "Balloon City".
Cmpton has gone on to higher heights since then. In 2005 (April - June) he was given the opertunity to perform on a cruise ship - CONCELLATION of the CELIBERTY CRUISES company. At that time the ship was sailing the BALTIC area, offering 14 day cruises between the ports of DOVER, ENGLAND and St PETERSBURG, RUSSIA. On that occassion he performed with a band called QUINT ESSENCE, originating out of his native GUYANA. Compton secured high ratings for his performances on the ship and this has propelled him in securing more contracts since then.
In 2005 - 2006 (October - Febuary) he gained his first contract with the PRINCESS CRUISES company and with his band - EPITHANI, performed on the CARIBBEAN PRINCESS. This ship sailed the CARIBBEAN AREA. In 2006 (June - December) he performed on the CROWN PRINCESS. The CROWN sailed out of NEW YORK and PUERTO RICO. This was followed with a Cameo performance again on the CROWN PRINCESS in Febuary of 2007, performing with the VIBZ band out of St Lucia.
Compton performed with his band, EPITHANI on the GRAND PRINCESS cruise liner from March - July 2007 while it sailed out of GALVESTON, TEXAS to the WESTERN CARIBBEAN countries, the MEDITERRAREAN area and the the BRITISH ISLES.
Compton had a sucessful and rewarding contract along with his band - Epithani - on the CORAL PRINCESS. They were performing on board nightly for the period Sept 26th 2007 until Febuary 15th 2008, while the ship did the PANAMA CANAL run, sailing out of FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA.
Compton and his band are currently performing on the EMERALD PRINCESS cruise liner . The ship sailed out of FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA on the 14th of April 2008 and will be in the MEDITERRANEAN area during the upcoming months. Compton and his band with their energetic and unique style will be performing nightly until mid-august when their contract comes to an end.
The guests on board are in for a great time with this band, so why not join them and experience it for yourself on the EMERALD PRINCESS in the MEDITERRANEAN.
