Interests

  • General

Anything worth doing. Life is too short to limit your options.

  • Music

    All genres
  • Movies

Most genres especially: indie films, foreign films, classic films, screwball comedies, Errol Morris documentaries, Nick Park shorts, and yes, I'll admit I love sci-fi & horror films. Any movie with: Daniel Craig, Benicio Del Toro, Clive Owen, Johnny Depp, Matt Damon, Cary Grant, Gary Cooper, William Powell, Humphrey Bogart, Henry Fonda, John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Christian Bale or Denzel Washington, for the obvious reasons.
  • Television

Rather not, thanks. Well, actually, it does make a great monitor for Netflix dvd's. Although any of those old 60's series with the uberHAWT Patrick McGoohan will capture my immediate attention. Is there a more beautiful man than this:

  • Books

P.G. Wodehouse, Evelyn Waugh, Iris Murdoch, Umberto Eco, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Salman Rushdie, H.S. Thompson and Stephen Hawking, are among my favorite authors though I have many, many more. W.H. Auden, Shakespeare, Pablo Neruda, e.e cummings are among my favorite poets. The Confederacy of the Dunces, by a writer who committed suicide before publishing his one & only book, which is a satirical masterpiece. Absurdistan, by a writer who thankfully did not commit suicide before publishing his fabulous farce & hopefully will author many more books. I am always fascinated by: modern history, ancient history, mythology, philosophy
  • Heroes

Those who question the "common" wisdom despite the strong pull of the "popular" culture. Those who dare to try against overwhelming odds. Those who don't believe a thing is true just because they see it in print. Those who think before they react.

Those who can see the gilding beneath the tarnish.
The few, the proud, the strong...

    The man I love...

    RIP Randy Pausch

About me:

I love to laugh...
I think life should be fun...
Thinking is so delicious to me I say "Mmm.... " after a particularly tasty thought.

To those who keep banging their heads into that proverbial wall:
Einstein once said, "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
So... dare to explore the uncertain outcome or risk both your sanity & your ultimate fulfillment...

Who I'd like to meet:

People with honest characters, curious minds, and open hearts.

Tree Of Life

My roots are dipped in anarchy
but my head is high up in the clouds...
Midst billowy tufts of cottony hopes
The sugarspun dreams of why & how...

My arms outstretched try to branch the gulf
of the narrow visions in unsung mind
My boughs are heavy with flowering thoughts
My leaves tremble as the heavens sigh.

The sunlight kisses my upturned face.
The moon beams upon my shadowy brow
The rain licks my wounds with silken tongue
Still... I cannot help but hurt some now.

My roots, rotten rebels that they are
Never let my head go too far
They tug at airy head fiercely
reminding it of Past's harsh reality...

But my branches quickly intervene
When they witness Drama's tawdry scene
They swat at the roots & say
"Well, tomorrow is a brand new day."

And so it is & so am I
Two parts laugh & one part cry.
I strive to love and dance and sing...

Our endless Winter
comes soon enough
Why deny the Present
its sumptuous Spring?

CC, I just read your comment on frosty's bulletin: I couldn't respond there because I already quipped to eddie and bulletin's don't let me hit it twice

I loved, loved, loved what you said, about each piece needing time to settle and me showing restraint... Restraint is a beautiful trait I could do well to learn.

    Help me?

Show me how it's done, your pearl(s of wisdom) is very valuable to me.

    So one poem a day?

I get a little trigger happy

But I am ready to be read, I'm been coming out of my shell!

    Daily Aardvark:

Aardvarks give birth to only one baby at a time. The baby is born without hair and stays inside the burrow for at least two weeks. It drinks the mother's milk for about four months and then begins to eat insects.

    Beauty is Strength.
Strength to face the deepest of fears.
Strength to continue the journey in spite of all burdens.
Strength to stand in the face of all adversity,
Even when the obstacles are loved ones.

    Beauty is Wisdom.
    Wisdom to accept all failings.
Wisdom to admit failure and short-coming.
Wisdom to keep wits in order,
Even when panic struggles to reign.

    Beauty is Endurance.
Endurance to rise after every fall.
Endurance to fight even though all seems hopeless and lost.
Endurance to live by true ideals
Even when that risks costing everything.

    Beauty is Compassion.
Compassion to show mercy for all.
Compassion to provide a free shoulder and ear.
Compassion to love all as family,
Even when they are the worst of enemies.

    Real beauty is lost forever,
    When measured in perfection.

    Zav!

    You’ve Made A Difference
    As Thanksgiving Day approaches,
    Our blessings we recall;

    We recollect them all.
    You are really special,
In all you say and do.
    You’ve made a difference in our lives;
    We’re thankful now for you.
