Pyrotechnic poet CD Collins and her band Rockabetty draw from the rich, poetic traditions of gospel and mountain music while lovingly turning them inside out. The group is influenced by country, bluegrass, blues, and jazz. With ever-shifting personae, Collins' narratives transport the listener from the hills of her native Kentucky, along the boulevard Champs-Elysees, and to the urban landscape she now calls home. Collins and Rockabetty combine spoken word and singing with music to forge a new tradition that one reviewer described as “pure magic.”
Collins follows the storytelling traditions of the South, both as a solo artist and when accompanied by musicians. As one of originators of the early '90s resurgence of spoken-word with live music, her work has been archived in two award-winning compact discs: Kentucky Stories, and Subtracting Down.
She has produced two videos based on tracks from her recent CD. The first, “Understory,” chronicles the catastrophic steps of mountaintop removal to retrieve Appalachian coal. The other, “City of Dreams,” is based on a lyric love poem translated into several languages. This montage of images and voices weaves a tapestry of peace and hope and is a tribute to Women Waging Peace, a network of women peacemakers from conflict areas around the world. Her debut collection of short stories, Blue Land, is forthcoming from Polyho Press in March.

HELP PUT THE STANLEY BROTHERS IN THE COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME!
Ralph Stanley has received many well-deserved honors in the last few years, yet one honor eludes him. While many of their fellow musicians and singers have been recognized by The Country Music Hall of Fame, THE STANLEY BROTHERS have been sadly -- some say criminally -- overlooked.
Jeanie Stanley, youngest daugher of Carter, and fan Kaye Hill have organized an on-going petition to change all that.
"The Country Music Hall of Fame recognizes those persons who have made a significant contribution to the country music field," says Hill. "The Stanley Brothers helped lay the foundation for what we have today. Their names deserve to be listed among greats like Bill Monroe and Flatt & Scruggs, who have already be recognized."
You can join their efforts in one of the following ways:
Contact the CMHoF directly:
Mr. Kyle Young, President
Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum
222 Fifth Avenue South
Nashville TN 37203
Or, if you prefer, you can send a letter to Kaye Hill, who will forward them to the HoF.

Kay says, "a simple one-line note is all that would be required, but please remember to supply your name and address, and an email address if applicable. I will be collecting all letters and forwarding them to the Country Music Hall of Fame."
