VOICES OF DIVERSITY

VOICES OF DIVERSITY

Oct 30 2009 5:14 PM

Please share this invitation to join Voices of Diversity as we bring special guest Ignacio Rivera to the 4th annual Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center's annual conference, Come OUT & Find OUT. Saturday, November 7, 2009. Kingston Holiday Inn, 503 Washington Avenue. 9:30am - 4:30 pm.

Gender Talk, Ignacio Rivera
Ignacio Rivera, who self-describes as a "queer, gender-shifting, trans-entity, Black Boricua, lecturer, activist, filmmaker and performance artist" will share their* own story of gender identity and fluidity. Ignacio’s story will lead to a discussion of the differences between sex and gender, and the often oppressive gender issues that affect us all.

*"Their" is a gender-neutral, gender-inclusive or epicene pronoun that neither reveals nor implies the gender or the sex of a person.

Ignacio Rivera has consulted with various LGBT and non-violence organizations on topics including racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, sexual liberation, violence, and more. Ignacio’s film credits include Crossing, an experimental short, and They, which debuted at Mix New York City Queer Experimental Film Festival in October 2008. Ignacio is one of the founding board members of Queers for Economic Justice, a progressive non-profit organization committed to promoting economic justice in a context of sexual and gender liberation.

Suggested tuition: $20 members, $25 general admission– Lunch is included in your tuition. Reduced rates & scholarships are available – Please pay an amount that is comfortable for you. Visit our website for details and registration info: www.LGBTQcenter.org

STOP Same Sex Abuse

STOP Same Sex Abuse

Feb 4 2009 10:40 PM

About this page:
I have been very active in Domestic Violence causes all of my adult life. I noticed a need in the world pertaining to Same Sex Domestic Violence. It happens more than people know. Unfortunately there are a number of gay people who barely consider themselves worthy or valued as a gay person much less a Domestic Violence Victim. There are also very limited resources, statistics, or information, for Same Sex Domestic Violence. Hopefully through empowerment and education we can change some of this. :D
