C.D. Stone was born and raised in Chicago; where, at an early age, he became deeply rooted in the blues and jazz traditions. His early influences and mentors included: Junior Wells, Red Garland, Grant Green, Carey Bell, Joe Pass, Danny Gatton, Roy Buchanan, and Big Walter Horton.
In addition to being a first call session player in Chicago, Dallas, Boston, and New York, C.D. Stone has appeared throughout the U.S. with legendary stars such as Red Garland, The Basie Band, Big Walter Horton, and Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, as well as having made numerous "headline" jazz and blues performances.
During his early Chicago years, he was a regular performer at clubs such as Kingston Mines, Club B.L.U.E.S., Biddy's, Theresa's, The Checkerboard, Collette's, The Bulls, in Chicago, Michael's, The West End Bar in N.Y.C., Wally's, Harper's Ferry, The Willow in Boston, as well as Dallas's own 1359.
In the fall of 1998, C.D. Stone decided to depart from the years of studio work and “go home” to his Chicago roots, the blues. The professional musician, who had spent years with mentors such as Carey Bell, Big Walter Horton, and the Basie Band, originated the 3-piece C.D. Stone and his Screamin’ Blue Orchestra.
Utilizing a grass-roots approach, the artist began playing at small venues throughout New England working toward the ultimate goal – a national and international performing career.
After months of club performances and festival participation, Stone’s path crossed with Ron Levy. Since that time, the talent of C.D. Stone and guests such as “Mudcat” Ward, George Farmer, Lenny Bradford, Ed Spargo, RJ Rabin, Mark Greenberg, and Phoenix Rivera have wowed fans whom have flocked to see C.D. Stone and his Screamin’ Blue Orchestra.
"Something Old, New, Borrowed 'n Blue was recorded in August 1999. The 11-track CD, produced by Ron Levy, features BLUES with a taste of Jazz…Jazz with a Blast of BLUES. The musicians on this recording have played among such blues greats as Big Walter Horton, BB King, and James Cotton. The tracks chosen for the CD are those most representative of what our audience experiences. The crossover of tasteful, hard swinging, blues-rooted jazz to the hard-driving Chicago-style blues has found its appeal in enthusiastic fans, ranging in age from eight to eighty.
Since its release, “Something Old, New, Borrowed ‘n Blue” has been heard on over 300 radio stations throughout the United States in addition to 7+ countries overseas. Hence, C.D. Stone and his Screamin' Blue Orchestra has moved to a new level of recognition and success. Stone’s talent and consistency of success is clearly establishing his inevitability as a national headliner!
