About me: Based in southern Spain (Andalucia), Cecilia Bogaard works as a freelance photographer. Her primary interest lies in photo-journalism/ documentary photography.
She is working as editor/project manager of www.tertuliaandaluza.com, which will go online this summer. It aims to become a resource for information about Andalucía, a point of contact for artists, and a place for people to discuss many of the issues facing Andalucía, including immigration, tourism, over-development and lack of water.
Cecilia Bogaard has a background in Social Anthropology and graduated from the Edinburgh College of Art Photography department. She worked as teacher, curator and photographer with the Department of Juvenile Justice in Maryland, USA, teaching a group of nine at-risk and committed girls to use cameras and express themselves in images. She is looking to work on similar projects, believing in the power of images as a means of self-expression.

Nota de prensa UNICEF: Darfur La región de Darfur enfrenta actualmente una ruinosa crisis humanitaria que ha ocasionado el desplazamiento de más de un millón de personas, una cifra que aumenta día a día. La situación de las mujeres y los niños más vulnerables es crítica. A pesar de la tregua suscrita el 8 de abril, la ayuda humanitaria no ha podido llegar a la mitad de la población desplazada, y existe una enorme preocupación en torno a diversos aspectos relacionados con la seguridad y los derechos humanos. La paz es esencial para que los 15 millones de niños y niñas del Sudán salgan con vida de este drama y tengan un futuro mejor. En Darfur Occidental, miles de vidas infantiles se podrían salvar con recursos económicos adecuados. Durante una reunión de donantes efectuada en Ginebra en junio pasado, UNICEF hizo un llamamiento para conseguir la suma de 46 millones de dólares. El plan de acción de UNICEF comprende ayuda en salud y nutrición, agua y saneamiento, educación primaria y protección. UNICEF también coordinará algunas iniciativas relacionadas con la nutrición, como los centros de alimentación terapéutica y suplementaria para los pequeños que presentan malnutrición. Más aún, el UNICEF está trabajando con algunos asociados para proveer de techo, ropa y artículos de cocina, entre otros, a decenas de miles de familias que han perdido absolutamente todo. A través de la Operación Supervivencia en el Sudán, UNICEF viene prestando ayuda en situaciones de emergencia a este país desde 1989, tanto al gobierno como a las zonas del país en poder del Movimiento de Liberación del Pueblo Sudanés. UNICEF ha prestado asistencia en Darfur desde que comenzó la emergencia, en 2003.
