Campaign to END the Death Penalty -Austin Chapter's Blurbs
About me:
We are the Austin chapter of the Campaign to END the Death Penalty (CEDP). CEDP is a national organization dedicated to the grassroots struggle for abolition, built upon the philosophy that death-row inmates and their family members must be at the center of fighting to abolish the death penalty. Our opposition to the death penalty is based on 5 main principles:
1. The death penalty is racist.
2. The death penalty punishes the poor.
3. The death penalty condemns the innocent to die.
4. The death penalty is not a deterrent to violent crime.
5. The death penalty is "cruel and unusual punishment".
The CEDP is the only national membership-driven, chapter-based grassroots organization dedicated to the abolition of capital punishment in the United States. We have active chapters in cities and campuses across the country. To win abolition, we need to build grassroots struggle. There is no shortcut solution. The truth is, we need more activists involved in order to win. To become part of the struggle for abolition, check out our meetings:
We will begin meeting every other Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM on UT Campus for the Spring Semester. Room: Parlin 301.
Hey there! The following message was sent to me by Randy, and I'd like to forward it to you with my best greetings, wishes and thanks!! Josef Randy says: Howdy, you all! I know I'm not doing any blogs right now due to my ap-peals, but bear with me and one day soon I shall return - hopefully with a new lease on life. I'm not silenced. That's for sure. I'm just focusing and trying to get past all of the junk going on right now. My heart is with everyone and it's just awesome knowing there's so many people who care. I have sincere love for everyone. I have, since my time on death row, tried to live by three principles: love, compassion and forgiveness. Well, and two others: peace and faith, also. June marks my five year point on death row and hopefully also the end. I'll continue to give updates, but for now I just wanted to send love and let everyone know how grateful I am for this community. We're all brothers and sisters, striving for the ultimate goal: ending the death penalty. It's in our grasps. I know it. Peace, Randy
Go join in my thread on the my space forum in US politics - it's called "Democracy and the death penalty - a non-sequitur."
I'm getting bitten by a troll in there and need some support! Also the bigger that thread gets the more likely people are to go and download the Free Rob Will songs... Cheers guys Honeywitch
I am the webmaster for Rudy Medranos website at www.freewebs.com/saverudymedrano as well as the owner of his yahoo group. I am an inmate advocate and a criminal justice student. LET ME KNOW HOW I CAN HELP!! we are having a rally for prisoner and family rights on Feb.23 from 1-4 pm in Albuquerque, NM at the District Courthouse!! EVERYONE please come and join us and pass this info on!!
Is it wrong to want equality for all? Obviously it is because so many fight against it. I heard a commentator say during the Jena 6 rally that it's hard to "smell yourself" in response to listening to an older white man say "We don't have a problem with the COLOREDS here in Jena." When a person stinks, it's hard for them to smell themselves. Whether it's the stink of hate, deceit, injustice or untruth... it's hard for you to smell yourself. HATE is a mentality that starts at a young age, not the first time you hear the word Nigger. Hate is a choice not a lifestyle forced upon you. Society has worked so hard to shift the blame... society can't even smell itself.
oh what a happy day, kenneth foster lives. finally texas does the right thing. let's keep the pressure up, and maybe someday we will see no more killing.
thank you for the wonderful things you do. namaste, vicki
Kenneth Foster Jr. Lives! Hooray for grassroots activism!! Here are Kenneth's own words from his Aug. 22 Court T.V. Interview:
"I work with a lot of anti-death penalty groups. Groups like Alive in Germany. My main core group right now is the CEDP, the Campaign to End the Death Penalty, and they're stationed out of Chicago but they have different branches throughout the U.S. The CEDP out of Austin has been the strongest group to step up thus far. They're pretty much helping lead my campaign. So we make these bridges. We build these bonds with all these people from all over. When I say "we," I'm talking about the whole death penalty movement, not just myself."
