This was a bulletin posted by a very dear friend of mine who lost her brother in a car accident. Please repost in hopes of saving even 1 life. Mahalo!
Strange to think that just 5 months ago my life fell apart. My world was turned upside down with just a single phone call. Just when I thought my life couldn't have gotten any better than it already was 5 months ago; it all came crumbling down.
I lost the only one I could talk to. The only one who knew my secrets. The only person who will never get to know my SON. And after all this time, the only thing I've learned is to not to take anyone for granted. To cherish every precious moment with the ones I love the most and to show them how much they matter to me.
Though, to think that after my brother's accident, my hometown Waialua, lost 2 great young men. That could have been prevented. A big loss for such a small community. A community where everyone is practically family. And it was during that time that I realized what an impact my brother has made to members of our community. The love and support was so overwhelming; the funeral with more than 2000 people attending, and for that we, no I, am truly grateful and touched.
Now alittle over 5 months another tragic tradey for our community. Another accident that claimed another life. An accident that also could have been prevented.
Why hasn't it sunk in to teens that the choices they make can ultimately be the last choice they'll ever make. Why must they think that their life is a joke. A game that can be played with. And why would you say "We should know better. But honestly, people don't think and it's just somethig that happens at the moment." Quote taken from the Honolulu Advertiser dated 10-23-06. You know that's just it. You don't know better. So how many more friends must die until you realize what's better. Do you think that drinking, driving, racing/speeding is all fun and games now. Someone please enlighten me. How all those combined can be fun and games. Tell me how being hurt from losing someone you love is fun and games. Tell me how having your life ruined and turned inside out is fun and games. And ultimately of course it's something that just happens at the moment while your intoxicated.
Why are you out so late? Why are you drinking under age? And what does your parents think? How do you think it makes your parents look? By now some even many may probably be offend and insulted; and fine you are entitled to think that; just as I am entitled to tell you like it is. Sure, I was once your age and I once did what your doing now. Though the difference is I've grown up, I now have a child of my own. Who fear that someone's irresponsible actions may take the life of my child. The difference is I've learned that after losing a friend of mines also from the actions you take, I've learned from their dumb founded mistake. So what choice will you make now? Will you go out this weekend, drink to you fall, then race off into the night? Will you be the next one to visit our missed ones? Or now will it finally hit you like a rock, that the games you play are foolish and no longer worth risking losing another friend/loved one.
So even if you say it's something that just happens. I dare you to stop and think about what the outcome maybe. For who knows you may be the next one. How many more families must suffer? How many more friends must blame themselves for what happened? And How many more must die before you learn?
To the families who must suffer these great losses. My heart and prayers goes out to you. They will be forever missed, forever loved and always in our hearts.
Hey Guys! At least we got a break today without a choice huh? Just don't get to comfortable because we will be returning Monday! I see you guys are coming through! Let me know how it goes!
