Celia Rose, originally from Alabama, has spent the majority of her music career performing outside the United States.
After completing her first solo album in 2000, Celia moved to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where she performed regularly with a local jazz band, 4-ever, as well as with several well-known Haitian bands such as RAM, Boukman Eksperyans and Strings. During her time in Haiti, her songs received airtime from major radio stations throughout the country and Celia was invited to do numerous radio and televised interviews. She also taught third grade at a local Haitian-American school where she used songs to help teach her students English, math, geography and science.
Celia moved to Paris, France in early 2003, where she joined Johannah Cantwell in forming the band, Wrapped in Rain. This female duo hit the Paris scene with full force and has been praised for stunning harmonies and powerful stage presence. They performed around Paris at L’Entrepot, Le Baiser Sale, Reservoir and their album Butterfly came out in 2005. WIR performed alongside Australian guitarist Tommy Emmanuel, Namibian singer Sharon Van Rooi and many other well-known African artists.
Wrapped in Rain has toured throughout Europe, but their most amazing experiences have come from their tours in Africa. Working at Cultural Ambassadors for the U.S. State Department, Celia and Johannah have traveled throughout South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, Madagascar, Togo, Rwanda, Burundi and Morocco. Celia continues to work with Wrapped in Rain, but currently lives in New York City where she is pursuing a degree in music composition at NYU’s graduate school program.
With a bachelor’s degree in French and Elementary Education from Washington University, Celia Rose combines her passions for teaching, travel and music into her life career as she works to develop songwriting programs that expand cultural awareness and spread positive messages to youth around the world.
