THE CELIDON FOUNDATION (the Foundation) believes that future generations deserve to inherit a sustainable world. To assure this, private citizens, communities, corporations, and nongovernmental organizations are working with the Foundation to refocus the present generation and to educate a new generation of eco-literate individuals. The Foundation is also working to preserve precious ecosystems; provide for environmental research; develop green consciousness; and enable greater participation.

“Educating for a sustainable future is not so much about a destination as about the process of learning to make decisions that consider the long-term economy, ecology and equity of all communities. Its goal is to build an enduring society. This involves learning how to anticipate the consequences of our actions, envision a sustainable future and create steps needed to achieve the vision.”
Teaching and Learning for a Sustainable Future, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (2005).
EARTH-FOCUSED SCHOOLS
GOAL: To support the development of earth-focused primary and secondary schools throughout the world that aim to grow an eco-literate citizenry, that equip students with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to make well informed environmental decisions, and that instill in learners the civic responsibility necessary to become kind and caring stewards of the Earth.
ECOLOGICAL PRESERVES
GOAL: To acquire and place in perpetual trust at-risk ecosystems. The Foundation will then utilize these as managed and environmentally focused laboratories for the benefit of students, teachers, researchers, visitors, and surrounding communities while at the same time protecting their natural habitat.
CONSERVATION CENTERS
GOAL: To enable communities located near sensitive environmental “hot spots” to establish conservation exhibit and education centers for the benefit of their own citizens, as well as visitors from around the world.
MARINE AND BIOLOGICAL RESEARCH
GOAL: To establish marine research and biological laboratories in remote locations around the world. These will be available to students, researchers, and their associates for short-term research.
GREEN COMMUNITIES
GOAL: To instill a green consciousness within communities throughout the world. The Foundation will support ecologically sound programs that promote conservation, pollution prevention, and healthy, sustainable families.
SCHOLARSHIPS
GOAL: To enable children and adults throughout the world to engage in formal and community-based learning activities which promote a better understanding of our Earth and its natural resources.

UNIVERSITY FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
GOAL: To support the development of a new environmentally focused and integrated university which is in tune with UNESCO’s* vision that a sustainable future “will require an education that not only continues throughout life, but is also as broad as life itself, an education that serves all people, draws upon all domains of knowledge and seeks to integrate learning into all of life’s activities.”
*United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization
Two prominent land owners in the Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica have agreed to donate a site for the University for a Sustainable Future. A formal announcement of this donation was made at an international news conference held near the Papagayo Peninsula on September 5, 2007. This was followed by a formal reception honoring the work of Dr. Jane Goodall.
Your donation will help build the University for a Sustainable Future. Funds are urgently needed for master plan development, facility construction, program development, and more. Click on the bannner above for more information
