"ALEFA!" ("VAS-Y, FONCE !" EN MALGACHE), PROPOSE UN RÉPERTOIRE ORIGINAL ENTRE JAZZ, IMPROVISATION ET RYTHMIQUES EMPREINTES DE MÉTISSAGE...
Nées en 2002 sur l'Ile de la Réunion, les compositions d'Alefa! reflètent un parcours riche en rencontres empreintes de métissage.
Prenant ses racines dans le jazz et l'improvisation, cette musique en trio saxophones- basse - batterie privilégie une grande liberté d’expression associée à la fraîcheur des rythmiques de l’océan indien.
Durant trois ans le groupe se produit sur de nombreuses scènes de la Réunion, puis s’exporte à l’ile Maurice et au festival de jazz de Madagascar.
En 2005, l’album “Vue d’en haut” est gravé juste avant le retour en métropole de la saxophoniste Céline Bonacina et du batteur Hary Ratsimbazafy actuellement rejoints par le bassiste Rémy Chaudagne.
Alefa! a remporté le tremplin jazz de la Ciotat et a obtenu un 3ème prix au concours de la Défense 2007 avec le bassiste Jérôme Séguin.

CELINE BONACINA
Elle commence la musique à l'âge de 7 ans, puis se spécialise au saxophone baryton dans les big bands parisiens entre 1996 et 1998. Elle part ensuite sept ans pour l'île de la Réunion. Elle se produira dans de nombreux festivals de l'Océan Indien, notamment en premières parties de l'Orchestre National de Jazz,
d' Henri Texier, ou en tant qu' invitée du pianiste Omar Sosa.
De retour en métropole, elle sort son premier album, “Vue d’en haut”. Ses compositions interprètées aux saxophones baryton, alto et soprano sont saluées par la critique (jazz magazine, jazzman...).

HARY RATSIMBAZAFY
Venu du centre de Madagascar, il a été le
batteur de Datita Rabeson et de Sadao Watanabe. Il apporte
au son de la formation la note colorée de son pays à travers un jeu très
personnel, heureux mélange des traditions polyrytmiques
des îles et de la culture swing.
REMY CHAUDAGNE
Bassiste, compositeur, poly- instrumentiste, sa musique se teinte d’influences “pluri-ethniques”. Ses sources vont de l’Afrique du nord aux rythmes plus modernes, de l’étrangeté de Thélonious Monk au contrepoint de Jean Sébastien Bach. Il a collaboré avec des musiciens aussi prestigieux que Andy Sheppard, Peter Erskine, David Liebman, François Corneloup, Stéphane Huchard, Philippe Osman, pour n’en citer que quelques-uns.

THE GROUP "ALEFA!" WON TWO FRENCH COMPETITIONS IN 2007 (Concours National de la Defense, third place, and Tremplin Jazz of La CIotat).
Alefa! was formed in 2002 in the island of La Reunion. The original
compositions mix influences from traditional Indian Ocean music with
African-American jazz colors. The trio, composed of saxophones, electric
bass and drums has a fresh, open sound with roots in the music of the Indian
Ocean. The group performed for three years in venues and festivals
throughout that part of the world including venues in the Mauritius Island
and at the Madagascar Jazz Festival in 2004.
In 2005, the CD “Vue d’en Haut” (“Seen from Above”), was pressed before
Celine Bonacina came back to live in France , accompanied by the drummer
Hary Ratsimbazafy. They soon added their new bassist Remy Chaudagne to the group.

means ”Go for it!”
CELINE BONACINA
She began studying music at the age of seven. Between 1996
and 1998 she began specializing in the baritone saxophone and performed
regularly with several Parisian big bands. She then left France to live in
La Reunion, where she taught and performed in numerous festivals throughout
the Indian Ocean region. Her group opened up for the renowned French big
band ?Orchestre National de Jazz? and for Henri Texier. She also performed
with the highly esteemed pianist Omar Sosa.
After returning to Paris in 2005, she released her first CD, “Vue
d"en Haut”, (“Seen from Above”). Her original compositions have had high
critical acclaim by the French press, (Jazz Magazine, Jazzman,
Culturejazznet, Sitarmag.com). “Like a spell, this is a deepness of
expression which really charmed me: the power to speak, the poetry of
playing...” (Alain Gerber, France Musique).
HARY RATSIMBAZAFY
Hary Ratsimbazafy , a native of Madagascar and a master drummer, was also
Datita Rabeson’s and Sadao Watanabe’s drummer before moving to France. His
approach mixes influences from his own polyrhythmic roots with those of the
African American jazz tradition.

REMY CHAUDAGNE
Remy Chaudagne’s musical approach is tinted with multi-ethnic influences.
His variety of sources include the music of Northern Africa, jazz
pianist-composer Thelonius Monk and the classical contrapuntal work of JS
Bach. He has collaborated with many prestigious musicians, including Andy
Sheppard, Peter Erskine, David Liebman, Francois Corneloup, Stephane
Huchard and Phillippe Osman, to name but a few.
