Unsigned Band Of The Month - May 2008 Review
Used by permission from, and written by Sam Agini
Cellar 170 lists Shinedown as an influence. Having had to put up with Shinedown for the past couple of years, I really didn't think I would enjoy Cellar 170 at all when we came into contact. Shinedown is a band that knows exactly how to pen the sort of song that I like to call an appeal to emotion in that much of the band's music is centred on a typically catchy chorus that just invades the mind, no matter the resilience of the host.
Whilst bands like Shinedown irritate me, bands like Cellar 170 manage to embrace a welcome approach to recording their songs. Lauren Diamond certainly warrants her sparkling name, with a voice that acts as a pacemaker. Yet despite her obvious aesthetic appeal, Lauren refuses to dress like a cheerleader—just listen to End of the Road until the end.
Adam Bicker and Matt Crooks manage to capture their dynamics poignantly as guitarists, but I'd personally like to see some more lead play that could propel Cellar 170 to the next level. Such levels are met when one of them does decide to go a little mad, but whilst Cellar 170 is an unsigned artist of the month, there is room for improvement. I have witnessed such improvements as I have monitored the band for a few months now, but I would like to hear more spontaneity, as is the case on a recent track, Romeo and Juliet. It's a track on which the recording quality is absolutely excellent, and Lauren rises to the occasion, with Dan Atkinson sounding a lot like a pro behind the drums, while Matt and Adam are to be found at their productive best. Lyrically emotive and certainly mature, it is a direction in which I hope to see Cellar 170 go. If you live in Kent, London and South East, I do implore you to watch Cellar 170 live, but don't go because I'm telling you to. My confessional response is that the music speaks for itself.
Cellar 170 are a newish band from just down the road from me and what I hear I like. Fronted by Lauren Diamond this kick ass alternative rock band will be going places in the next year or so if they're given the breaks as their style of music has much to offer. This promo contains three fully mastered tracks and two rough demos and not a bad song amongst them. The guitars/bass add to it's charm but the person who brings out this band is Lauren Diamond with her wicked voice. Just check out 'The Introduction' and 'Romeo And Juliet' for proof of that. What you have hear is a band that can offer you something really cool and in time these guys will be writing stronger tunes as they play more gigs etc. 8/10
Cellar 170 (pronounced one-seventy) are a band of the rock/alternative genre. They were formed in 2005 in Faversham, Kent, and have been compared to bands such as Alter Bridge due to their musical influence, and Paramore because of their overall sound and female vocalist.
Alex and Matt are the two founding members, having met each other at school. Dan, a long-time friend of Alex's, was brought in at the helm of the drums, and the band started rehearsing. Adam Bicker soon joined in mid-2006 as the lead guitarist. A singer was then needed, as well as a band name. After many auditions to find a singer, the band were approached by Lauren about being in the band, and they were all too happy to accept. Adam then left Cellar 170 in 2008, and mutual friend, Rob, was bought in as a replacement. The band wrote their first song, Those Years in 2006, and is still to this day, one of their most successful tracks. The band are also busy hard at work writing some new tracks, with new ideas being brought in by Rob.
Cellar 170 have appeared on KMFM's Rock Show as their Unsigned Band Of The Week, as well as Music Control Radio across the One Radio Network, and their local student radio station, CSR FM. They have also appeared on Ultimate-Guitar.com as one of their Unsigned Bands Of The Month for May 2008.

One of their tracks, "My Confessional", will be released as part of Lakeland Records' latest compliation album, due for release in July or August of 2008. The band look forward to working again with the record label, as well as expanding their fan-base, not only around the Kent area, but around the country, with a few London gigs being planned at the moment.
