Cellar Door are an acoustic roots duo comprised of Aimee Grinter and Mike Brown. Originally from a sleepy country village on the outskirts of the New Forest, they are now based in south London, enjoying the smoke and the sirens. With a song writing partnership and contemporary 'anglicana' sound developed over ten years, Cellar Door have evolved a musical identity that is raw and soulful, whilst also embracing the delicate, stark sounds that are possible with acoustic music. With diverse influences including the Pixies, Radiohead, Nina Simone, Bright Eyes, Jenny Lewis and PJ Harvey, it is refreshingly difficult to find a convenient pigeonhole for Cellar Door. Consequently, they have been described as everything from 'haunting and dreamlike' to 'swamp trash'. However, what undeniably binds their songs together is the soul and passion they put into both writing and performing them. Having played hundreds of gigs as a duo, Cellar Door thrive on captivating audiences, whether they're performing at a concert hall, a muddied, sun drenched festival or a back street bar. Career highlights include winning the 2008, industry acclaimed, Testing 123 competition for unsigned acts. This success led to an appearance at the Croydon Festival (a highly successful satellite of the Mela weekends - attendance 50,000) supporting Finlay Quaye and the Stereo MCs. Additional support slots include While & Matthews (winners of best duo at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards), Grammy nominee James Hunter, and Keith James with Rick Foot on their UK tour. In 2010, they made their third appearance at Witchfest International and in 2011 they returned to the Fairfield Halls to support David McAlmont. Cellar Door released their debut album 'Siren Songs' in 2010 to excellent reviews, including a review in Acoustic Magazine. FATEA Magazine also chose the track 'Bad Lands' for their showcase compilation. Find out more at www.cellardoormusic.com
