About me:
My profile was customized using the Taming the Beast.net MySpace Layout Generator
I am a cell. I can be either Eukaryotic Cell or a
Prokaryotic Cell. I have many different organelles that
help me function correctly. Eukaryotic Cells are much more
complex than a Prokaryotic Cell.
Here Are The Organelles Of A Cell
1. Eukaryotic cells have a true nucleus, bound by a
double membrane. Prokaryotic cells have no nucleus. The
nucleus is the brain of the cell. It controls what does
what in a cell.
2. Eukaryotic DNA is linear; prokaryotic DNA is circular
which means it has no ends.
3. Eukaryotic DNA is complexed with proteins
called "histones," and is organized into chromosomes.
Prokaryotic DNA is "naked," meaning that it has no
histones associated with it, and it is not formed into
chromosomes.
4. Both cell types have ribosomes, but the ribosomes of
the eukaryotic cells are larger and more complex than
those of the prokaryotic cell. Ribosomes are made out of a
special class of RNA molecules(ribosomal RNA, or rRNA) and
a specific collection of different proteins. A eukaryotic
ribosome is composed of five kinds of rRNA and about
eighty kinds of proteins. Prokaryotic ribosomes are
composed of only three kinds of rRNA and about fifty kinds
of protein.
5. The cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells is filled with a
large, complex collection of organelles, many of them
enclosed in their own membranes; the prokaryotic cell
contains no membrane-bound organelles which are
independent of the plasma membrane.
6. Throughout the eukaryotic cell is Smooth Endoplasmic
Reticulum-responsible for the production of hormones and
other secretory products, is a vast network of membrane-
bound vesicles and tubules called the endoplasmic
reticulum, or ER for short. The smooth endoplasmic
reticulum is so named because it appears smooth by
electron microscopy.
7.Rough endoplasmic reticulum appears "pebbled" by
electron microscopy due to the presence of numerous
ribosomes on its surface.
8. Mitochondria provide the energy a cell needs to move,
divide, produce secretory products, contract - in short,
they are the power centers of the cell.
9. A vacuole is a membrane-bound sac that plays roles in
intracellular digestion and the release of cellular waste
products.
10. The cytoskeleton helps to maintain cell shape. But
the primary importance of the cytoskeleton is in cell
motility.
