What about that moment that exists right here — there — and is gone? You can't live for the future — it never comes. You have to make your peace with the present if you're going to have any peace at all Learn, Artist! is concerned with right now. The two-guitar, one-bass improvisational band carves out swooping arcs of now, holds them up to the light for the briefest of examinations, and then lets the now combust with dignity and purpose so that something newer can fill the void. Squiggly echoes fold into distant foghorn blasts and become an effervescent haze that lingers no longer than is decent. The future is unwritten, but the present is forever learned. Learn, Artist! explores the now at 6 p. m. at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum on the Washington University campus (Forsyth and Skinker boulevards; www. kemperartmuseum. wustl. edu or 314-935-4523) as part of the Kemper Presents concert series. Admission is free, and complimentary snacks and Pabst Blue Ribbon beer are provided.

The performance will begin at 6:00 p.m. and continue until 8:00 p.m. Free snacks and free Pabst Blue Ribbon beer will be provided. Come listen to Learn, Artist! and visit the two great exhibitions now on display: THADDEUS STRODE: ABSOLUTES AND NOTHINGS presents a selection of large-scale paintings by this LA-based artist as part of the Kemper Art Museum's Contemporary Projects series. Strode's first major museum show, the exhibition will include two dozen mixed-media paintings--wild mash-ups of California surf and skateboard culture, Zen philosophy, rock music, literature, film, and comic books. ON THE MARGINS aims in part at underscoring the contrast between the realities of disaster and how they are presented--what we see and what we don't see--through the lens of today's media. All of the works in the show were created in the last seven years. Collectively they investigate a range of aesthetic strategies that depict the ways in which war and conflict around the world impact--or fail to impact -- our everyday life. Renner, Artist	Dec 13 2007 7:10 PM The Aviation Club (featuring Jon Ferber, of the Orbits, and Mike Burgett) will re-unite and play at Off Broadway, 3509 Lemp Avenue, St. Louis, on Friday, January 4, 2008. The Aviation Club will perform songs that haven't been heard for 20 years. Other guests will be announced. The evening will celebrate the first anniversary of the archival web site www.JetLagMag.net. The site celebrates the earliest days of the St. Louis punk and wave scene with scans of each issue of that seminal fanzine, Jet Lag Magazine. Proceeds from the event will help to A Thousand Books send books to Peace Corps teachers.
