Enhancing the region’s economic development, education, and quality of life by providing a free home to seven of the region’s most important cultural organizations.

The Western Virginia Foundation for the Arts and Sciences is independent, private, and non-profit, and owns and operates four downtown Roanoke properties: Center in the Square, Center on Church, the former Shenandoah Hotel, and the former downtown Norfolk & Western Railway Passenger Station.

Our signature facility, Center in the Square, opened December 9, 1983, culminating a community dream begun in 1977 to revitalize a decaying downtown and boost the arts through a downtown cultural center.

Center in the Square is home to seven independent cultural organizations:
Art Museum of Western Virginia, History Museum & Historical Society of Western Virginia, Mill Mountain Theatre, Science Museum of Western Virginia, and The Arts Council of the Blue Ridge. Center pays the rent for Opera Roanoke and Roanoke Ballet Theatre, Inc. at Jefferson Center.

The home Center provides is free – these organizations pay no rent.
Center provides free utilities, maintenance, custodial and security services to the organizations, a value estimated at $2.5 million. These services provided by Center represent approximately 30% of the organizations operating budgets. Center in the Square relies primarily on financial support from the local community to provide these services.

For more information, please visit our website at www.centerinthesquare.org.

Everyone stands for something.

We are opening website after website all designed to help you make a difference.

At our newest website, MyNetCause. org, you can turn your hopes and beliefs into reality.

How?

By setting up your own cause and rallying your friends and family and others to support you. Raise awareness and use the proceeds you make to help buy uniforms for a junior baseball team, or help buy robes for a choir, or help children, or help the homeless, or help stray animals, ...

Set up a cause, make it your homepage and shop at your own online mall.

It doesn't cost you anything and you can make $25, $50 or even more per year for each person that you get to make your cause their homepage and to shop online at your mall.

Come see what we are about.

Sign up your cause today and lets make the world a better place!

thanks,

PLEASE click above to view Thursday's Benefit for injured Officer Bryan Lawrence!

Just to give you an idea of his character; The night he was attacked while making an arrest his personal car was full of roses. He intended on taking those to local nursing homes the next morning for Mother's Day!

He suffered a severe spinal injury and is undergoing rehabilitation.

Am I Black Enough Yet?
by Clinton A. Johnston
directed by George Grant

A controversial new play by a student in the Playwright's Lab at Hollins University, Clinton A. Johnston, will be presented at Mill Mountain Theatre from March 13th -16th. The production, performed by a professional group of actors from Charter Theatre of Washington DC, takes you on a touching, thoughtful, and hysterically funny tour of the state of Blackness in America.
