The Cougars!'s Interests
|
| General | The Central Illinois Cougars are looking for all positions for the upcoming 2007 season. Check the official team website at www.semiprocougars.com
| | Music | In 2002 to 2004 the Cougars were plagued with injuries and other team problems. Though the team was 8-5 in 2003, they lost in the Southern Conference Championship game against a Bellville team that they were tied with at halftime. Eleven of the thirteen players that were forced to sit due to injuries were starters. The Cougars were left with only seventeen players and cancelled the rest of the dissmal 2004 season at 1-4-1.
| | Movies | 2005 brought new uniforms and faces. The Cougars changed their uniforms from an ungly red and black to a crisp maroon, gold, white, black. The trouble players were all but removed and a new foundation of youth and hardwork replaced the "superstars" Though the victories were hard fought, the Cougars showed flashes of brillance at times with a roster that held eighteen rookies! The Cougars were independant and they started the ICON league with SIUE, Jacksonville, and Effingham, though Effingham was still techniclly MFL. A small tournament was decided to be played at the end of the season The Cougars finished 6-2-1 with losses to the hard nosed Effingham team and the National Champs, the Pekin Mid State Steel. The Cougars ended up playing SIUE in the tournament championship. The game was tied at the end of regulation and due to a thunderstorm, the game was halted. After much debate, and dissatisfaction on both sides, SIUE declined to play overtime and the Cougars were reluctantly named winners. The Cougars and SIUE no doubt feel each was the better team and look for this budding rivalry to make for some great games in 2006. SIUE will have a score to settle and the Cougars will be wanting to put to rest once and for all who is the better team. | | Television | In 2006, the cougars retained most of their veterans and added several new faces, and some high end defensive free agents. The offense struggled all year. The Cougars suffered only one regular season loss which was in Decatur in week one. The offense struggled severly and all three of Decatur's scores came from offensive turnovers. Despite the defense holding Decatur to only 92 total yards, and not allowing a single extra point, they Cougars lost 18-0. The Cougars later put it together and had an impressive 8 game winning streak, but it all came to an end on a cold November night when they lost the 2006 championship 6-3. The Cougars were furious at the refs who called back an 82 yard punt return for a touchdown for a block in the back when the number they called it on was not even on the field. But ultimatley, the Cougars did not execute on their other plays that could have given them the lead. | | Books | Our Defensive Coordinator is a novelist, so his book, "A Prisoner's Welcome." Other than that, "Study that playbook!" | | Heroes | Free agent/rookie applications are simple. About me:
The Central Illinois Cougars was founded in 1999 By Kinney Myles. Kinney played for the Tampa Bay Bucs of the NFL and the Tampa Bay Bandits of the USFL in the early 80's Kenny went to Mississippi Valley State and was coached by Steve Spurrier. Jerry Rice was an under classman and was not even a starter at that time. ( Kinney can tell you some stories about Jerry!) The inaugreal 1999 season did not go well for the Cougars and they did not have a home field. They played every game on the road and finished the season 2-6 with one of the wins a forfeit. Once Kinney understood the difference between semi-pro and pro, he made changes to his coaching style and posted back to back championship appearences in 2000 and 2001.
