Youthman's album "Travel Pack" is an adventure in sound. His tracks were recorded duringhis travels while DJing throughout Europe, Asia and Australia. The album melds deconstructed rhythms and heavy basslines in a sweet cocktail of explosive Dubstep, Baltimore, Bassline, Hip Hop and DrumnBass styles. This mix-and-match of genres while continually remaining true to an underground sound has earnt him the kudos of some of the best in the business: Andy C, Marcus Intalex, Bailey, DJ Zinc, High Tone and Gilles Peterson.
Youthman's intense focus on production has led to celebrated collaborations with the most respected artists in the French DrumnBass Scene (Redeyes, Big Red, Jamalsky, Le Lutin, Tambours Battant etc ..) and the industry has been listening too - he's signed releases on numerous international labels: Bingo, Tov, DMC, to name just a few.
In 2008 he created two tracks for Ragga juggernaught Big Red's Album 'FTW' (Virgin??). His anthemic tune 'No Fake MC' was lauded on BBC - Radio 1 and around the same time, the radio was calling his DnB collaboration with Luce the "tune of the week" (Baily, BBC1).
This inspired Youthman to detach himself from the club's sub woofers for a little while and embark on a much more introspective and experimental voyage - his première album is the fruit of this labour.
He eases the new listener in unexpectedly with an intimate and jazzy folk tune, 'Brother Don't Cry' where he marries his warm sub-basses to Luce's folk-esque vocals.
No apologies next, with the snappy rudegirl sound of Jennika combined with the minxy-sweet voice of Australian artist, Luce, all to a beat that would make Afrika Bambatta proud. Hip Hop continues with long-time conspirator, Big Red on“No Fake Mc“ and “Freestyle Killa“ when MC Youthstar (Dirtyphonics) weaves his magic through a sea of agitated breaks. But it's “Radiation“, “Talking“ and “Requiem“ where the listener is really transported into a darker universe of menacing basslines, deconstructed beats and hypnotic stabs - here we feel DJ Youthman coming alive through his songs, as if on stage somwhere in a dark dark basement.
The album's ecclectic styles work together brilliantly for Youthman, and result in a patchwork narrative of the nomadic artist at work.
