Who I'd like to meet: Jam:
This is a 2 minute phase during which Jammers try to score
points by passing opposing team members. A jam may be
called off by a referee, the Lead Jammer or the clock. There
are usually 6-7 jams per period.
Once the pack has lined up the referee blows the first whistle;
the pack takes off . At the double whistle the Jammers sprint
to get to the front of the pack. The jam will last 2 minutes unless
it is called off by the Lead Jammer or a referee. The end of
the jam is indicated by the quad-whistle blown by a referee.
Penalty Box:
The referee will call a skater by her number, once as a warning,
but a second offense may sentence her to 30 or 60 seconds
in Purgatory. Screw up REALLY bad, and the refs will leave
it up to our Penalty Mistress to decide the skater’s fate…
30 seconds:
• Illegal use of hands (holding, grabbing, etc.)
• Gripping hands or locking arms
• Intentionally cutting the track
60 seconds:
• Unnecessary roughness
• Deliberately falling in front of a skater to block
• Grabbing a skater from the ground
• Fouling a skater who is down
• Tripping
Wheel of Pain:
• During half time of each game, the girl with
the highest penalty count from each team spins
the wheel to redeem herself. She will either win, or
lose, a point for her team!
Discretionary Derby Delinquency
Here are more examples of derby crimes, left to the discretion
of the referees:
• Illegal use of the hands and feet
• Blocking from the rear
• Elbow blocks above the shoulders or in an up
ward, downward, or jabbing motion.
• Clothes-lining an opponent
• Blocking from out of bounds
• A blocker or Pivot engaging the Jammer while
more than 20 ft. forward of or behind the pack.
a li'l dry, but this tells you about how the game is played:
Love the score board shot. Sudden death JAM! It doesn't get better than that! Twister is awesome!! So good to see all my derby sisters Batgirl jumped back in with all 8 wheels. Thanks again for the privilage of playing!
We have created a way for Roller Dodge players and Derby leagues to partner and support each other. Roller Dodge teams in your area can be a good source to recruit future derby skaters and they are very likely to buy tickets to derby events. See our main Website at Roller Dodge dot com and link your main site to ours to get started. Check out the info about the North Texas 2010 Tournament. BTW we now have a ‘Roller Dodge’ group on Facebook. Hope you will connect with us there as well.
