Influences
The lack of ART and Culture around the Central Valley and the need to bring it too where we live. The hope that we can foster a community built on sharing the experience of art and music without the desire for profit or gain. To help expose artists of various genres to one another and the rest of the local music audience. To provide a foundation by which we prove that the Central Valley has a lot to offer by way of music, art, performence, and political agendas that is not necessairly being presented. To work with fellow promoters, bands, venues, and sponsers who value the hard work and effort that is involved in hosting and creating a community based music festival with plans for longevity and expansion. People we see on the street every day who look like they could use a beer and a show and some fun.
The 5th Annual Central Valley Independant Music Festival will take place during the last two weeks of April, 2008 at various central valley venues. Submissions will be accepted for bands, artists, performers, etc until January 15th, 2008 at CVIF_5@yahoo.com. Both Beat Happy Music and A Girl Hurts also do year round events which your press kits will be considered for. Please include a recording of at least three songs, a picture and bio, as well as your dates open and preferences. This year only 70 slots are open with local bands getting a better chance, and out of town larger acts filling out the rest, so be quick like a bunny and get yourself on what will be the greatest year so far!!!!
These are non-paying, showcase (30-45 min) gigs at various venues. We work hard to accomadate bands, but we cannot afford to kick down cash since most shows are free or cheap and pay for the programs, promotions, etc. If gas money is an issue, or a larger named act is requested, we can try to work with you. This is a festival that promotes connecting to the extended community, expanding your fanbase, and having a good old time for the kids. If you wanna play, please, contact us now. No fuddy-duddy party poopers allowed.
We will be releasing a full-scale zine style program, as in years past, and encourage bands, labels, and businesses to purchase and ad to help support and promote this grassroots, d.i.y. festival. While myspace helps promote you, there is nothing like seeing an ad in print to get kids to check out yr stuff. We hope you will purchase and ad, and our paypal system will be up at cvindiefest.com soon with details, prices, etc. Spread the word, and until then check out myspace.com/agirlhurts for local events in Modesto, including our kick ass CD Release show at the Queen bean January24th, 2008.
You can now get answers to your questions and informations on our blog section, which features how to submit, what we are all about, past venue information, terms and agreements, and more. Still e-mail us here, but check to see if your questions are answered there first.
The Plea for Peace Foundation has been nominated for an Impact Award. We are currently in first place but that can change. Please vote and spread the word. You can vote once per day and voting ends on Friday.
