Subject: dbn070 is done.
it's out. FINALLY. watts should have it tomorrow. i had a few
shipped
to me ahead of time to bring to detroit, but now it looks like we're
not
going. i'd like to get you some if there's a way? you driving or
flying? anyone driving? i could meet someone on 94 if that works out?
give me a call...
on another note, richie called me yesterday hassling me because i
didn't
show up to his gig in madison and wasn't going to milwaukee. his main
reason for calling though was to ask for copies of some old dbn records
him, magda, and troy were playing. then he started talking about this
white label he's been playing that he really likes and he couldn't
believe it was .. bass network. turns out it was your record.
his
quote was something like "if i was still actually making music this is
what it would sound like". so i guess that's props!
the watts write up....
CENTRIFIC - Somebody Went To Detroit And All I Got Was The Itchy
Hawtins
(6 98)
Centrific with one of the best-named records of the year, "Somebody
Went
To Detroit And All I Got Was The Itchy Hawtins", .. Bass Network
This 3-tracker is a step away from the usual pounding DBN output, with
a
trio of superb pastiches of Plastikman resulting in some stellar dubbed
out, tracky, Detroit-styled minimal techno, the highlight of which is,
"Itchy Hawtins", Centrific s own take on "Spastik" NOT to be missed

If youve ever seen Centrific play, then you already know why hes the artist of the month. If youve never seen him play, then you havent experienced what the Minneapolis electronic music scene is really about. He is hands down the most innovative DJ in the city, and possibly the midwest. With an ear for good music thats unrivaled by most, Centrific continues to break down barriers brought on by genre classifications and close-minded people. Steves passion and creativity has inspired every techno dj in the city in one way or another, whether you happen to be into what hes playing at the time or not, you get a better understanding of what a DJ should be just by watching him.
Besides DJing, Steve has created a reputation for throwing some of the best, and most forward thinking shows the city has ever seen. Constantly bringing in electronic artists for the first time that continue to change the face of techno as the world knows it. Intellephunk stands for one thing above all quality, and are highly regarded not only by us lucky enough to go to them, but by almost every artist that has had the opportunity to play at one. Steve is one person who is unaffected by the day-to-day drama surrounding the dance music scene, and only focuses on the most important part of it the music.

On November 7, 2009: HotDish (1st Saturdays @ BLACK) presents "A LOCAL’S GUIDE TO TRAIN WRECKIN’ (_NOT)" featuring Bryan Gerrard (Celebrity), Soulfeather (Caterpillar), Nate Laurence (Bunch-o-labels / BLACK) and J. Matthews (Hot-N-spicy / BLACK).
We know you love it local – naughty famished monkeys! So, we’re using all locally grown ingredients this time. It’s a neighborhood cookout in November! Gluttony will be strictly enforced (but wear what you want)!
Bryan Gerrard: Um…do we need to write an intro Twin Cities househeads? What’s cool though…ready for this…we’re forcing him to resurrect the “deep” from his many days in the VIP; remember…when the place bumped and we all had tears in our eyes because the music actually did move us? Yep…that!
Introducing DJ Soulfeather to the VIP: If you don’t know him yet, he’s got the funkiest collection of tracks you’ve ever heard. The B-boys/girls in town have started to collect in a small cipher in front of him every Saturday at the Caterpillar Lounge where he is a resident – merely because he is…well…the “freshest kid.” We met him during gigs in Duluth at the Red Star and dragged his ass to the cities with us!
And…you’ll get a true taste of HotDish residents this time: Nate Laurence and J. Matthews – giving it to you unnaturally dope for the middle half of the night.
TOO MUCH LOVE freaky (Crisco Twister) lovers: REMEMBER that when you enter the side door, you get free crossover to TML. Double your pleasure, double your fun! You're invited. We'd love to see you in the VIP!
Four hours - 450 fahrenheit - First Ave - and you've got yourself one flavorsome hotdish! THIS SATURDAY (Oct 3), Hotdish serves up Romano Arcaini (from Latenight Society) and our hometown hero Jeff Kash (back from Florida for a one-time engagement)!
Maybe you know it and maybe you don't but Mr. Acraini (Orlando, FL) has been satisfying the house music meat-plate for many years with a discog that makes your mama's recipe book look brand new. He's the man behind "Tight Recordings" and hugely popular "Latenight Society," so we're wearing extra thick oven-mitts this time. With releases on massive house labels such as Detour, Amenti, Tango, Nordic Trax, Phobic, Eight-Tracks, and Control (to name but a few) it's no doubt we're excited to have him play his Minneapolis debut!
TOO MUCH LOVE freaky (Crisco Twister) lovers: REMEMBER that when you enter the side door, you get free crossover to TML. Double your pleasure, double your fun! You're invited. We'd love to see you in the VIP!
