Don Roberto's Blurbs |
About me:
First off, I gotta plug these guys. I listen regularly and you should too. If you have a few extra bucks and you like em you should donate. Commercial free kickass music all day long.
I'm a bit of an existentialist, somewhat jaded, occasional nihilist, bohemian hedonist, de-winged extremist, contemplative agnostic. (I believe in the existance of GOD though I won't pretend I have more than a shred of an idea what that means and don't try to convince me otherwise). I think existance has a purpose higher than entertainment, though it seems most of the time that it doesn't. I wish people could stop and realize there is a bigger picture than their day to day, than what is playing on TV, different than what "they" want us to think.
I hate how people separate themselves from reality in order to make themselves comfortable. It bothers me that we put the elderly into retirement "homes" because we're just too busy to care, after all they did it for us for 18 years. Or maybe we ourselves are too afraid of the eventuality of death to be around them. Premeditated ignornce.
You could call me "progressive", I prefer independant, but even that is a label. I have a mind and I use it. I spend alot of time thinking, mental shortcuts usually yield low-quality results. I'm all for a self governed egalitarian society free of the stratification and the strife that exist now, that will probably never exist. I think war is unnecessary. I hate playing the game on either side of the coin. I hate mob mentality and the effects of group think. I enjoy debate and logical, rational discourse. I get scared when people start talking about liberating people, and going on crusades. I think everyone has the right to their own opinions, but must be equipped with all the information available BEFORE having them and still be open minded AFTERWARDS. I think ignorant people and mindless followers shouldn't vote. Hunting doesn't make you manly. Fighting doesn't make you brave. It takes much braver of a person to make peace and a stronger one yet to maintain it.
I think the popular media distorts everything to sell you stuff, ideas, products, values, beliefs, presidents. I think birth control pills should be sold in vending machines for a dollar a pack, no hell make them free. I'm sick of disease, of people starving because they can't afford to buy the food grown on the land bought by the corporate farms their ancestors farmed for generations.
I believe in animal rights, and I'm anti-cruelty, but I'm not an activist. I think cows are just as cute as kittens. That happy meal is the result of another animal's (and probably alot of south american natives) unhappiness. But I'm not a vegetarian (anymore) and I do enjoy a good cheeseburger.
People tell me if I don't like this country I should leave, instead of wanting to "fix" it. People tell me I'm un-American because I don't think we should blow up other countries and support political agendas that include the building of Wal-Marts, Targets, and shopping malls in the cleared land left behind, to sell crap made in China and take more jobs away from middle class Americans. I tell them that I'd rather have been born in a tribe on some island in the middle of nowhere, without ever having to worry about Catholic crusaders or shithoarding imperialists coming there and ruining everything, but it's too late for that. So, while I'm here I'm going to be the best person I can be, and do what I think is right.
I don't hate everything. Don't get me wrong. I think we are all (potentially) beautiful, wonderful people inside, but some of us refuse to believe it. I'm tired of being judged. I'm tired of being labeled. I'm tired of hating things, being sick of things, and feeling like I always preach the obvious. I'm tired of feeling judgmental, but happy I'm not a hypocrite.

Who I'd like to meet:
Open minded people, progressive thinkers, geeks, other art car weirdos, other psych majors, people interested in uncovering the secrets of the universe, quantum physicists, improvisational jazz artists, people that turn lights off when they leave the room / house, and oh yeah, just all around cool people to chill with. :)
