| CGord: General Info

| Member Since | 6/25/2006 | | Band Website | http://www.soundclick.com/cgord | | Band Members | Just me! I've always enjoyed reading what kind of gear is used by musicians I like, so here's my stuff:
Guitars: Schecter C-1 Hellraiser, Dean ZX, Squier '51, Washburn WG587 (7 string), & a mid-80's Ibanez Roadstar RG410 that I've owned since new. The Schecter is all stock, with an EMG 81/85 pickup set; the Squier & Washburn are also original (though I plan on installing a DiMarzio pickup set in the Washburn). The Dean has a Seymour Duncan Distortion pickup in the bridge position, & the single-pickup Ibanez has been outfitted with an EMG 85. Tunings range from standard to AEAEAE, though right now all are in CGCGCE. Strings at the moment are 10-52 D'Addario's.
Bass: Schecter Stiletto Deluxe 5 string & Ibanez SR500 4 string, tuned to whatever matches the guitar being used.
I'm using Line6's RiffTracker for recording to the pc, & it has been a great purchase. NOTE TO LINE 6 USERS, buy all of the available amp & pedal packs. Buy them, buy them all, buy them all at once, buy them all at once nao. Trust me on this.
I'm also an anime fan. I've always loved animation, but really only knew the U.S. stuff until a few years ago. Then I noticed this show on Cartoon Network about some guy in a red robe with long, white hair & dog ears. I knew it was Japanese, but didn't know anything about it, & decided to check it out. I got hooked on InuYasha, & started watching more on CN (Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain, etc, etc, etc). Then I thought, "I wonder if I can find Japanese episodes online that haven't aired in the States yet?" I discovered fansub sites (anime fans who take the time to subtitle the Japanese episodes for free) & the hobby went into overdrive from there. My house is quickly filling up with DVD's as I download (unlicensed!) shows, burn them to disc, then purchase the R1 discs as they become licensed & available in the States.
It's also a lot of fun as my two daughters watch it right alongside me (my wife, not so much). My oldest is also a big manga fan & is buying & reading them constantly. It's a great way as a parent to spend time with your kids enjoying a shared interest.

I wanted to shred at first, but never achieved any real skill in soloing. My love over the years shifted to rhythym guitar, & now it's my primary focus. | | Sounds Like | crap! | | Type of Label | Major |

A little bit about some of these songs:
HCGJ 1 Hour: This was my entry in an unorganized "what can you write & record in a one hour time limit" contest on HCGJ (Harmony Central Guitar Jam forum). You may have noticed I took the easy way out writing-wise, it's all one chord progression.
Set You Free: I wrote & recorded the rhythm guitar, bass, & picked the drum loops. The lyrics & guitar solo were written & recorded by Mike "micwalt" Walter.
Black Flag Over My Head: Didja catch the song title ripoffs? I watched some YouTube of a guy who aped the King's X sound like you wouldn't believe, he really nailed it. That got me in the mood to see if I could get close, & this tune is the result. When I posted a little 4 bar sample on HCGJ, micwalt liked it to the point of volunteering to do vox & lead guit on the finished track. I have both songs up because there are structural differences between the two versions. I did not like the changes Mike asked me for (repeat this riff here, remove that riff there, etc) when hearing it before he added his stuff, but with him on there, the changes make perfect sense. As an instrumental, I still prefer the original arrangement. Be sure to check out both!
Any lead-guitar oriented clip: These are all off-the-cuff, one-take laughathons. I do them with tongue firmly in cheek, they're just to chuckle at. The clips with two lead tracks were recorded in two consecutive passes, without listening to the 1st while recording the 2nd. The tracks were then panned left & right. Kinda fun to see how they match up & veer away from each other.
A little bit about me...father of two, husband of one. Main interests are music, animation, & cars.
Favorite music: MINE! :p Prong, Anthrax, The Devin Townsend Band, Strapping Young Lad, Gojira, In Flames, Pantera, King's X, Depeche Mode, that sorta stuff.
Favorite animation: Japanese anime. NGE, Bleach, FLCL, Azumanga Daioh, Fumoffu, Cowboy Bebop, Geneshaft, Abenobashi, Bounen no Xamdou, Black Heaven, GitS, Toradora, Black Lagoon, etc.
Favorite cars: The cool ones. Hot rods, muscle cars, some of the current stuff.
