Ask Chad Walker about his music, and he struggles to find words. Ask him about his Saviour, and he can’t seem to stop talking.
Born in Orange County, California, Walker now resides in Southern Oregon, where his unique brand of acoustic pop is making its mark on the music scene. “My songs come from circumstances in my life”, says Walker, “I write love songs and stories, things that happen in the world…My worship stuff is written mainly for the kids I work with in my church’s high school group, I try to write songs they can get into, and I tend to write a lot about the sacrifice of Jesus, and the way He gave His life.”
“I don’t know that I would be on stage at all”, he laughs, “if my youth pastor hadn’t shaken my nerves out of me and stuck me up on stage. Without him, I don’t know that I’d be doing this at all.” Of his first single, ‘Why’, he notes, “It’s not about a specific person, but more about me trying to show people how to have a second perspective on people who are in situations where they are struggling. It’s my favorite because its really less of me talking about myself and more of a song that is from God. I want it to be a story people can identify with.”
With little formal training and just two years of guitar, Walker has honed an individual sound, combining a solid, gritty vocal with precise guitar technique: aligning him with who he cites as his music influences: Shawn McDonald, Jimmy Needham, and mainstream act Jason Reeves. With so many doors opening for his songwriting and performing, Walker still shies from claiming the spotlight. “john 3:30 is my favorite scripture”, he says eagerly, “And it’s been a favorite for a long time. I have seen so often the more i lose sight of myself, the more i can see God and the more he is able to work through me. I have been saved by grace, and want to communicate that through my music.”

Romans 12:9-12 Your love must be real. Hate what is evil, and hold on to what is good. Love each other like brothers and sisters. Give each other more honor than you want for yourselves. Do not be lazy but work hard, serving the Lord with all your heart. Be joyful because you have hope. Be patient when trouble comes, and pray at all times. Share with God's people who need help. Bring strangers in need into your homes.
