  • Bio

Most people can pick out a single album that they could never live without. Chad Warrix, however, only needs his guitar to enjoy an endless supply of songs. Warrix has never been one to follow the crowd. As a young boy growing up in small-town Jackson, Kentucky, he was constantly exploring. Immersed in the Appalachian Mountains, Warrix developed a strong appreciation for the outdoors. He learned to live off of adrenaline riding dirt bikes, snowmobiles and racing. At the age of four he discovered his love for music through the gift of his first guitar. Warrix was quickly engrossed with the avenue for expression and learned to play. His interest in music only grew when he moved to Nashville in the early 1990s and enrolled at Belmont University to study music and business. It was at Belmont that Warrix really started finding himself through music. He began writing his own songs and playing them in the middle of Nashville’s rich musical tradition, holding his own. While in college Warrix connected with a few friends and formed the Rock group Sodium. The members all chipped in their own resources, fully believing in their own talent. Through a lot of determination Sodium toured the Southeast and was signed to Universal Records. The band released a few albums before splitting up. After Sodium’s split Warrix found himself back in Nashville writing music. It was then that he reconnected with fellow Kentucky bred songwriter David Tolliver. Warrix and Tolliver became quick friends and began writing together. In 2005 they formed the duo Halfway to Hazard and were signed to Mercury Records in 2007. The duo caught the eye, and ear, of country superstar Tim McGraw who would go on to produce their debut album, Halfway to Hazard. The album featured their first single, “Daisy” which rose to be a Top 40 Hit on Billboard’s US Hot Country Songs chart while the album peaked at number 14 on Billboard’s US Country Albums chart. Halfway to Hazards' connection with McGraw strengthened when they opened for him and wife, Faith Hill on their Sout2Soul tour in 2007. The duo released their second album, Come on Time in 2009. To date they have written and recorded over 90 songs together. In January 2010 Warrix and Tolliver decided to take a break as a duo. Leaving a clean slate and an open mind Warrix decided to step back and recharge. In taking time to be creative and express himself Warrix fell in love with music all over again. He has been able to help out friends in the business while focus on a solo project. Warrix describes his own music to have a Halfway to Hazard flavor but no boundaries. It is more soulful and expresses exactly who he is. Over the years Warrix’s experiences have allowed him to grow as a songwriter- “each experience shapes you and brings out different parts of you,” Warri explains. He draws from inspiration from his family, friends and the environment around him, a self-proclaimed “musical sponge,” just taking it all in. Always exploring as a child, Warrix has never stopped. He describes music as a journey, one that for him has only just begun.
