This year marks, yes, it's true, the 30th anniversary of the Urinals (under various names and fits and starts), and we're hitting the road for the 30th Anniversary tour(s) (see show dates on this pages), and recording/finishing an album (that what we called 'em back when) of new material this Winter. Stay tuned here for more details.
The URINALS have been in and around the Los Angeles music scene, on and off, since their formation in 1978. Known in the early 80s as 100 FLOWERS and in the mid-2000s as THE CHAIRS OF PERCEPTION, the band currently includes founding members Kevin Barrett and John Talley-Jones as well as guitarist Rob Roberge. The band's material has been covered by Yo La Tengo, Leaving Trains, Minutemen, Halo of Flies, Eleventh Dream Day, No Age and others. In 2005, URINALS was the first American punk band to be invited by the Chinese government to play the Chaoyang International Pop Music Festival.
In addition to the aforementioned groups, we three have played (or are playing) variously in Radwaste, Vena Cava, God and the State, Uniblab, The Hacks, Trotsky Icepick, Violet Rays, and Wednesday Week. We've played music festivals from Austin to Beijing, and have shared bills and stages with Sonic Youth, Minutemen, Mudhoney, The Clorox Girls, Kevin Ayers, Black Flag, The Last, Berlin, The GoGos, The Bangles, The Jesus and Mary Chain, X, Human Hands, Dream Syndicate, Savage Republic, and Swans.
What a great show you played at the Echo last week...it was such an honor to share the bill! Thanks again for the sharing of gear and the super rockin' rock.
