The band sound continues to develop with the addition of Clarinet for 2009.
The Chalktown rhythm section features Rob Gifford, long regarded by many as The folk dance drummer, and Michael Davidson’s hypnotic bass lines and subtle guitar textures.
Clear lead and strong harmony are provided by Dave Blackmore’s Sax and Bass Clarinet and Paul Scourfield’s deft reworking of dance band Melodeon.
Springing from the ashes of the legendary Gas Mark Five, Chalktown have now established their own name with rock solid grooves, fine original tunes and fiery improvisation from some of the best players on the scene.
Imaginative reworkings of traditional tunes, together with fast developing set of haunting original tunes, have produced a set that is good to listen to as well as dance to; some have described it as ‘like dancing to a concert’.
Chalktown is one of the few English ceilidh acts who genuinely challenge, develop and reinvent the form to appeal to an audience wider than the folk scene, whilst also continuing to build a solid following of dancers.
“Elegant and good to listen to as well as a fine dance outfit”, Gordon Potts
This years festival is headlined by Billy Bragg (Friday), Seth Lakeman (Sunday) and Peatbog Faeries (Saturday) with many more top artists also performing.
Un placer encontraros aqui y disfrutar de vuestro magnifico trabajo. Un fuerte abrazo desde Extremadura, España, de vuestros amigos de Aulaga Folk. Juan Carlos
Thanks for the add. You sound a bit like 'Big Bandemonium' from New England - A couple of members (Peter Barnes and David Kaynor) are in this photo along with Peter Siegel and myself. I like your interpretations. Vonnie from 2 Bits...
